Funny seeing this thread still continuing 2 years later.

The question shouldn't be do you "believe" privilege exists.
The question should be do you understand privilege exists and how it applies to you and those around you.

White privilege isn't "You're white so your life is easy."
White privilege is "You're white so your skin color doesn't contribute to the ways your life is harder in ways a person with black skin experiences ways in which their skin color does make their life harder."
And many types of privilege can overlap, as OP mentioned in the first post.

My two copper on a lot of this thread….

Until people, are capable and able to see others, not as white/black/yellow/brown. Not as male or female, or Muslim/Christian/Bhuddist/Pagan/Athesist. But just see other people.

There are always going to be problems. Humans for the most part suck.

There usually seems to be a reference or criteria based on where folks were born, “originated from “, example, “most from European , western European countries”, Asia, etc in many of the treads dealing with similar subjects. As folks gained a set of special characteristics (gifts) from their ancestors, based on the physical location and it’s social practices they came into the world.

Hence location of the source or cause, of those life-form, special gifts, creation, invention, of any perceived strengths, then we may take a look a bit further , and utilize mainstream scientific analysis that identify where the first set of species identified as “humans” originated from, after all, we all look at causes and effects in true science.

I will leave that to the many scholars herein.

Bullshit. Unless by punishment you mean that they have to now compete with women and people of colour.
No, I mean having to have more credentials than said women and people of color in order to get placement.
I'm absolutely all for letting credentials speak for themselves and leaving race and gender off the table.

Not to mention the entire idea that European's are white and therefore better or different is just wrong. 5,000 year old man frozen in a glacier in Switzerland who was revealed with glacial melt was not cauacasion.

Skin colour in groups of humans changes over generations based on how far they are from the equator and how much vitamin D they get.

I believe in privilege and that privilege comes with territory...If we're talking on a racial standpoint... YOu can fly in to China and Hong Kong and find out who has privilege. Go to the middle East and find out who's got that....go to India and you will get the same...Is there White privilege in Canada and US...there probably is, but the disconnect isn't as obvious as the places I have mentioned....I'd rather be here than there and I've been to those places.

What is the origin of the meme? Was it a poster from back in the day? Was it made post 2000s? What was the purpose?

It is the reasoning behind the meme that could make it racist and I know you know that
Found it on twitter the other day.

Thought I'd post in this thread and wait for the impending meltdown 😂

I have my suspicions as to why it was made and my suspicion is it was made for a racist reason. Which if that was the case, then yes - it is racist. It is the reason behind the meme that needs to be looked at , not the meme itself

That depends on whether it was meant as a joke or not.
People with no sense of humor tend to get offended at it

If it was meant to be a racist joke then it is still racist. Joke or not.

Again, I have my suspicions and it is that this was made in retaliation from butthurt white men who didn’t like the Black History Month memes about the accomplishments of the black community.

And the difference, Black History month is a time and place to celebrate accomplishments by the black community. Accomplishments that are often overlooked or were overlooked at the time they happened. They are a minority group. We already know these as the reasons for Black history month and why we pick that one time to celebrate these accomplishments but butthurt white men can’t handle it and memes like what you showed and shared get made.

And then you take joy in continuing to spread that racism because you think the natural and proper reaction of others is funny. To each their own I guess.

Thats your opinion which you're entitled to

But if other races are entitled to be proud of their accomplishments, then why cant white people??
I think they should be able to.
So long as its done without claiming racial superiority, or by putting other races down

You missed the part in my post that said “time and place”. The way this meme is done is the wrong time and place. That fact is shown in that it is made to look like it was from a time when racism was alive and well more so then it is today.

You know this. You admitted why you brought it here; that is not opinion. That is fact by admission.

You have had pages of fun of it now - why are you continuing?

IMO the inventions of white people is the very definition of "white privilege" back in the day. that is not going to happen now when society has even the playing field. Weve come along ways as a society. And that's why "white privilege" isn't as visible as back in the day.
