they are at it again!

British scientists are already developing vaccines for a future ‘Disease X’ pandemic, Sky News reported on Monday. After Covid-19, the researchers believe that deadly animal-borne pathogens – including bird flu, monkeypox, and hantavirus – may evolve to infect humans.

The research is being carried out by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) at the high-security Porton Down laboratory complex in Wiltshire. Porton Down’s Vaccine Development and Evaluation Center has been expanded since the coronavirus pandemic, and 200 scientists are now developing vaccines for animal viruses that haven’t yet infected humans.

“What we’re trying to do here is ensure that we prepare so that if we have a new Disease X, a new pathogen, we have done as much of that work in advance as possible,” UKHSA chief Professor Dame Jenny Harries told Sky. “Hopefully we can prevent [a pandemic]. But if we can’t and we have to respond, then we have already started developing vaccines and therapeutics to crack it.”

The Porton Down team have already developed a vaccine against Crimean-Congo haemorrhagic fever – a disease spread by ticks that kills 30% of those it infects. Early-stage clinical trials have started, and 24 volunteers are expected to test the jab in the near future, the British broadcaster reported.

Other pathogens being studied include bird flu, monkeypox, and hantavirus – a family of viruses spread by rodents.

Sky News did not specify whether the scientists were conducting so-called “gain-of-function” research on these pathogens. Gain-of-function research involves modifying the viruses to make them more likely to infect humans, in order to weaponize them or develop vaccines against them. The US funded gain-of-function research on bat-borne coronaviruses at the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China, which is believed by many to be the cause of the Covid-19 pandemic. This lab-leak theory has not been conclusively proven, however.

While the Covid-19 pandemic has receded in the last two years, the disease control and vaccine research infrastructure put in place by Western governments has been expanded. In the US, the White House announced the creation of a permanent pandemic response agency last month. Like the UKHSA, this agency has also been tasked with developing the “next generation of medical countermeasures” for animal-borne diseases that haven’t yet threatened humans.

La la land
If true, which I don't think or believe it's natural, even if they name X to what ever and find the Vaccine for it, I will opt out.

They can suck it for all I care.

I won’t jab for X.
I won’t Social Distance for X.
I won’t Lockdown for X.
I won’t wear a mask,
I won’t sanitize my hands with carcinogens for X.
I will never let a family member die alone for X!
I will not kneel to those who will use Disease X to enslave.

Vaccines have saved hundreds of millions, if not billions of individuals worldwide from pain and/or suffering and/or death.
Yeah ok and they were also supposed to provide immunity to covid. The only thing that was provided was immunity to the manufacturers from lawsuits. I've lost all trust in our government health officials.

Fantastic, that's awesome. Please do not drain our pocketbook in the future should any medical issue arise for you.

Do not be offended by this post, it is you claiming you cannot trust government health officials which encompasses doctors and hospitals.

While it didn't provide immunity, the results show that it did spare millions from severe consequences of catching the 'vid. Considering how it hit some people really hard in 2020 and 2021, I don't think it was a waste. It's very similar to the flu shot. It doesn't stop you from getting the flu, but it makes the illness less brutal and improves life expectancy for those with compromised immune systems.

Now, back to the original story here....Check the source: RT. Russia Today (or whatever), is not exactly a trusted source, and anyone who reads their stuff without taking a massive grain of salt is headed down a dark path of silliness.

But I can't say I'm surprised. @canada-man constantly posts these bizarre and fairly fact free (or odd interpretations of data) articles from dubious sources. As @shack pointed out, vaccines have saved millions of lives. They have helped eradicate diseases like polio or measles (though both are starting to re-surface due to the anti-vaxx idiots), and help improve the overall health of the population.

Now, while I don't necessarily believe this tale about a vaccine for a disease that hasn't appeared yet per se, I do believe they are working on news delivery methods and other ways to improve the body's natural resistance.

I stopped reading CM's links a long time ago. A complete waste of time.

Great, you can be the first to try it out Slugger 🤠

The rest I don't need to address as it is just verbal diarrhea.

Makes sense, develop new techniques for solving common virus-borne diseases. No doubt there are many common steps up to a certain point. We live in exciting times.

EVERYONE in the health care community knew it was a matter of when, not if, we would have another pandemic like the 1918 Spanish flu. Possibly even worse.
It's no conspiracy. Pandemics have plagued humanity since humans began living together. 1/3rd of Europe was wiped out twice in the dark ages/middle ages.
A huge proportion of the native population of North America was wiped out after first contact with Europeans.
Facts.

Yup, and lets face it, this one was really, really mild. Essentially, mostly (but not all of course) old, obese, already medically compromised died. They don't deserve it of course but they are always (unlike the 1918 flu which was hit the young hard) the most likely to be hit first. It could have been worse. It could have been bacterial.
With the wide availability of various DNA-manipulation tools, it's only a matter of time before a 'good' one comes out.
But then again, death from nuclear war is more probable.

For anyone saying "well don't come to the hospital if you're sick".
Cool okay, if you're diabetic because of your personal diet choices, if you smoke and use the services of a hospital or doctor to help you breath, the list can go on and on, get off your ass, go for a walk, exercise, eat properly, cut the salty, sugary, fat inducing foods and you'll be less of a burden on the system.

If you do not trust the science and the doctors then, no do not seek out a hospital for help when sick. Smokers or a diabetic most are not claiming they do not trust the medical system, it's just a lack of control although diabetes for some is a genetic noose around the neck.

Tell the doctors next time he needs surgery that they can skip the masks, because, after all, they don't work...

Lol
