Bring back John Gibbons (just kidding I was not a Gibbons fan). I do think there is a reason why Don Mattingly was available and not managing somewhere. They need to find a no nonsense guy from outside the organization. I once mused that Russell Martin could be a good manager.
I think they traded Hernandez and Gurriel to end the clowning (latino) at the end of the dugout...but they left the biggest clown there.

... anyways bringing back those players as managers is a pipe dream of mine, but I do know John and his days are numbered. As they should be. He makes moves like a high school coach.
