Best running back these eyes have ever seen. Of course there was what could have been with Bo Jackson but......
Brown left at his peak and never looked. Got to respect that.
Had a ton of domestic issues though. Don't think he'd make it through that today.
Probably the best all around athlete to ever play professional sports.

He was a multi-sport athlete in high school. At Syracuse he played lacrosse, a sport they took very seriously in the Big East. Opposing coaches said he was the greatest they’d ever seen in that sport. How many athletes can say they were the greatest ever in 2 sports? Only Jim Brown.

Two things about Jim Brown that really stands out to me. 1) Richard Pryor's come back stand-up skit and the part about Jim Brown,, and the SNL skit of the meeting between Kanye West, Donald Trump and Jim Brown.

Wasn't there a film made about great athletes coming together for civil rights? Too young to watch him play, know him from the Dirty Dozen. Had he been born a Boomer, not only would he be the Greatest Athlete, he'd also be the Greatest Actor.

GOAT. Of all positions. He averaged 104 yards per game....over his entire career.
In a 17 game season that would be about 1,800 yds. as his average season. His best would have been 2,260 yards in a 17 game season. NFL record is 2,105. and he did that 60 years ago.

As a NY Giants die-hard grew up watching him torment any player that got in his way, notably Giants LB Sam Huff, a great rivalry. Indeed, got an inkling of Jim Brown at the very first game I attended, this famous tilt that eventually led to the Giants-Colts OT classic a few weeks later. I remember my father, uncle and grandfather screaming that we had to stop that guy Brown. Who's Brown, said this little boy. I soon found out.

I remember watching Jim Brown and noticed that after being tackled a teammate was always there to offer a hand to him to get up. I saw a documentary about him and he was asked why did they do this on the majority of his plays. He said that getting up off the ground expended energy that could be put to better use when he was running and breaking tackles. He had the game figured out.
When he started in the NFL in 1957, the team played 12 regular season games. In 1961, the schedule expanded to 14 games. The 16, and later 17 game schedule did not come into being until 1978. His achievement of 7 1000 yard seasons is all the more remarkable prior to 1961. The numbers he achieved during his career cannot be readily compared to the results of recent players because it was really a different era and time. He stopped playing over fifty years ago. Brown played when there were only rudimentary pads and thin helmets. Hell, when I played high school ball, we still had leather helmets and wool uniforms.
Oracle, not taking anything away from Jim Brown. Great athlete for sure. But I would say Jim Thorpe is the greatest all around athlete.

Especially considering the adversity he endured during his competitive days.

As if any other running back who played 12 or even 14 games came close to him, even though they also played under easy conditions.
When Bobby Hull died the media treated him like a pariah, due to his alleged spousal abuse. With Jim Brown they barely mention it, while praising him as a hero.
There was a biopic made on Jim Thorpe, Jim Thorpe: All American. It was brutally honest, which is what Lancaster Productions were known for. Voted the Greatest Athlete of the first half of the 20th Century, he also suffered being treated as a second class citizen. He began to drink heavily which led him to spousal abuse as well. He had sobered up when the film was made, when asked about Lancaster playing him Thorpe replied, "I was never that handsome".
Lancaster was a very athletic actor, had he decided to play footbal he may have been able to tackle Brown on his own.

Absolutely unlikely that Burt would have tackled Jim Brown. Burt was born in 1913 and would have been about 50 when Jim Brown started playing.
