Congratulations on 5 years.

Good tip with icing sugar I will need to tell my 30 year old son to give that a try. He's forever unsuccessful at quitting his coke addiction. Tries and relapses in 4 days. Longest sobriety was 6 months. He's been dealing with this for almost 10 years.
Doesn't long term coke use destroy teeth and nose tissue? Is he functioning or is his life chaos?

How is your son supporting this addiction ?
If he is working its a miracle he has not been caught and fired.
Good luck.

I used to drink a lot. No drugs. After my heart attack . I stopped drinking now since it has been more than 1.5 years. I drink occuasionly on special occasion . Good luck on your contentious success.

Confusing you say you used to drink, stopped, drink occasionally.
You have alcohol addiction, the young man in this post has hard drug addiction.

I have a highly addictive personality so I’ve never tried drinking or drugs cause I know my ending would be bad. But I absolutely applaud you for being sober for 5 years. I can’t say I know how hard it must be, but I can only imagine. And for that stupid post by a member… that was a joke in bad taste, you should be ashamed of yourself.
It’s easy to hide behind a computer when someone is seeking positive reinforcement smh

Last night, 5 years ago, I was at a client’s house. I met him on seeking arrangement. We’d been for dinner and I’d drank more than I’d planned… but it didn’t count, as it was free, right? We went back to his and he had more booze and drugs. I had said I wasn’t going to do any white drugs for a while (in fact not at all this week and this was the third time)… but it didn’t count, as it was free, right? When we ran out I wanted more. I offered him [service redacted-we aren’t allowed to discuss it here] if he called his dealer and he did, and I did it. I remember afterwards he told me I really shouldn’t do that. What a scumbag.

I left his house at 9:30am after he tried to convince me to sleep it off at his. I called my roommate and told them I needed help. I’d never said that to anyone about anything.

Today I celebrate 5 years of sobriety. Sometimes I still have to punch myself. I never knew it was an option for me to quit; I just thought booze and drugs were part of my life forever. I didn’t think I could do anything without them. Turns out the opposite was true; I could barely do anything WITH them.

God I’m lucky I’m alive. I’m so proud of myself and so thankful for the friends and support I’ve had these past 5 years and how deeply I’ve learned to love and self-advocate while staying gentle and getting back in touch with my inner child.

Congratulations!

I have friend die recently from liver failure due to alcoholism, he was only 32.
He must've had a serious drinking problem. I know people between 60-80 who drink what I would consider is an insane amount and they're not dead yet. My friend's mother smokes and drinks like a fish. She's over 80 and recently had a blood test. I asked how her liver function is. He said her numbers are all near perfect. I have no idea how that's even possible. I guess there's always exceptions.

He works for a while gets payday loans gets fired gets a new job and more payday loans. His dealers also spot him up to $1,000 at a time so with a few dealers he builds up debts fast. Then he becomes paranoid dealers will kill him or at least hurt him. Then he asks grandparents to bail him out. They did once or twice but now they stopped that.

He had a very serious problem and was told that he had a chance to repair his liver if he stopped.

He didn’t stop, continued with hard liquor and paid the price.

Sad to read this. I am dealing with an alcoholic male friend 35 years old.
Constant turnover with jobs, drinking before work, during lunch breaks etc.
Stealing items in the house, pawn shops and then to the liquor store.
Unfortunately individuals will wake up one morning and realize they need to change ways or they may not wake up to see another day.
He is killing himself, his family and friends. And this is life. Peace.
