'What a scam': Canadian shoppers frustrated by shrinkflation in grocery stores
Consumers are sounding the alarm in regards to shrinking package sizes — a phenomenon that has since been coined 'shrinkflation.'
Except it won't be cheaper because the cost of the individual parts has risen while their sizes has decreased. Are we getting back to the package sizes of the 1960’s, when obesity was a rarity?
I also experienced a similar shrinkflation with a Longo’s meat lasagna. After eating a quarter of it, I had to double check the package to make sure I didn’t accidentally buy vegetarian. It wasn’t; but the skimpy amount of meat made it taste like vegetarian. Going forward, I will make my own - it will be cheaper that way and there will be plenty meat.
They have to pay for the new packagingExcept it won't be cheaper because the cost of the individual parts has risen while their sizes has decreased.
Yeah but they have to pay for packaging anyway. The cost would be in re-jigging the machines that fill the packaging. In today's technology, re-sizing packaging wouldn't be a factor. How long would it take to return to profit margins after re-jigging the machines ? It's the cost of the raw materials that have the biggest is influence. They have to pay for the new packaging
Not sure what you mean here. I'm talking about the price of making the lasagna yourself will not be cheaper than buying the now crapified pre made stuff because the size of each individual component for a homemade lasagna (or any other recipe you want to make fresh) has both shrunk and gone up in price at the same time. They have to pay for the new packaging
The chicken wing ration actually went UP from 740 g to 600 g.![]()

Cut a pair in two, you will have 6 again.....Went shopping at winners the 6-pack men's sports socks are now 5-pack.
Except the companies are double dipping, raising the price and shrinking the sizes at the same time. and no you can't "it is what it is" this shit when these motherfuckers are turning around and announcing record profits year over year. and blatantly saying "we can blame it on inflation" in their earnings calls. The price of products is going to go up, there’s just no getting around that.
The question is do you want to pay a higher price for the same size product, or do you want to pay the same price for the slightly smaller package.
With obesity rates as high as they are, it is a good thing that we’re all being forced to reduce our caloric intake. We ordered Swiss Chalet delivery on the weekend. Seemed like the food in a meal combo and the sides were less.
