Why should 8-11 yr old kids be exposed to these type of books?? Also the librarian said, she had more explicit books behind her desk, if the 11 yr old kid was interested---LOL Yet they choose to ban some words in James Bond books. Makes no sense to me!!
First… let’s define “they” in your sentence. Who do you believe “they” are? Librarians? Censors who somehow have the power to change books? Or the rights holders who decided to modernize their product?

you really believe he read those books? LoL
I read them when I was 9 or 10. That's when they were current. I was too mature for them at that age though. 🐸

So, you want to pick and choose which mediums to censor?
You're really adept at mis-reading posts, huh?

Maybe an adult literacy refresher course would assist you.

I love the way you and Mello rally to the cause of defending the "artistic integrity" of trash pulp thrillers written 60 years ago. Like I said, if we were talking about Phillip Roth or Norman Mailer, I'd support them not being bowdlerized. Fleming is not worth the effort.

You stalwarts know who Roth and Mailer were and what "bowdlerized" means, huh?.... You're both literary types of course.

Why did you keep reading those trashy novels already knowing they were shit, racist and crude? Give us a peep into that dark and perverted mind of yours.

Mailer and Roth? I jerked off to both of those guys' dirty books. But I have my literary standards in what I jerk off to, Mello. You're probably more into Burroughs though.

He's savvy enough to distract from answering real questions here and in other threads, just not savvy enough to realize how conspicuous he is. I guess that would make him somewhat savvy and totally shameless.

The poster you refer to is a very resentful individual without a modicum class. I've found ignoring his diatribes to be beneficial.

IMHO, "they", are the woke left. The same censors who forced the Cleveland Indians MLB team to become the Cleveland Guardians. Also, who forced the Washington Redskins NFL team, to become the Washington Commanders.

The Germans got rid of all their Nazi statues, flags, etc. after WWII; now it’s the US with a Nazi problem.
But they didn't get rid of Mein Kamph. The point being it was written by one of the worst ever birthed to this world. And its still relevant.

The Bond books, and even the first films, contains racism and misogyny. Because thats what happened in the 50's not just in the USA but around the world. It is a document showing the casual British post war colonial attitude was still quite alive.

I fear one day books like To Kill a Mockingbird will be banned or changed, losing their purpose in the drive to create a sanitized world.

They should change the Montreal Canadiens to the Montreal Quebecers because they don't really want to be Canadians.

Sure. The point I am making is that the Germans seem very capable of “remembering their history” even after tearing down all the Nazi flags and monuments.

To Kill a Mockingbird has already been banned in some US school districts.

The best argument against Mein Kamph is to actually read Mein Kamph. Fuck that book is boring cringe. I actually made it only a 1/3 of the way through before I gave up. Much like the bible actually for the same reasons.

I do find it funny though. Wow that book was shit, I guess I will read the next one. Whoa, that book was also shit, let's read the next one...
Reminds me of the joke of the guy who sees some shit, so he looks at it, it's shit, smells it, yep it's shit, tastes it, surely shit, good thing I didn't step in it.

Believe it or not, To Kill a Mockingbird is banned in Brampton, I a parent didn't like the language in the book including the use of the N word and had it removed from the curriculum.

Florida has the largest number of banned books, among them: The Handmaid's Tale, The House of Spirits, Me and Earl and the dying girl, Native Son,The Perks of Being a Wallflower.....

After playing Rachel in Me and Earl...., Olivia Cooke has had her pick of roles. I may have to rethink my boring take on House of the Dragon, she's also in Gary Oldman's Slow Horses.
