James Bond Books Will Be Edited

I can't find the right word now but I think that re-writing books, tearing down statutes of bad people etc does a disservice to the future of our civilization. We need to have these examples of where and how society used to be to see how we are progressing.

Just my opinion.

I remember seeing in an episode of Penn & Teller Bullshit they were discussing Gandhi.

Seems when he was a lawyer in South Africa he would in his writings refer to blacks as Kaffirs, I believe the term is.

Now he's a revered figure world wide.......What should we make of this?....As they said on the show. This was common in those times. Hard to judge some people of the past by today's standards.

Why should 8-11 yr old kids be exposed to these type of books?? Also the librarian said, she had more explicit books behind her desk, if the 11 yr old kid was interested---LOL Yet they choose to ban some words in James Bond books. Makes no sense to me!!

Where were these librarians when I was a kid ?? I only had National Geographic.

It's not as though the Bond books are anything other than trash to begin with. I read them back when they were actually new and best sellers and they were shit then. The movie franchise gave the books an undue extended life of fame. The books themselves are he-man adventure pulp. Most of Fleming's contempories in the genre didn't sell as well and certainly didn't get the movie deals and are long forgotten with other worthless pulp books.

If they are trash, why bother with "cleaning them up"
I am guessing some people out there must have wood for them if they are reprinting and I doubt those people would care much for a rewriting, slobbering fan boys tend to be that way.
If they are shit and nobody will read it, it's still double plus Orwellian.
Also books are sacred as far as I am concerned, I have a set of early 90's Encyclopedia Britannica I want to get rid of. Even libraries won't take them for resale. I am gonna have to toss them at and it pains me to the core to do so.
Also even if they are shit, they still spawned a series of movies that were very impactful even if it isn't your bag.

Books are OK, I stopped reading them after a few to be honest. I am also getting sick of the films, action scenes that go on too long, really boring at times, also after you have seen a bunch of them, all that adventure seems a bit well done.

Yeah - I am not on board with this. Take out of circulation if you want because it means the book is still out there in its original form but to literally edit books????? That is just beyond. The only edit that should be done; if at all - is a content warning.

First… let’s define “they” in your sentence. Who do you believe “they” are? Librarians? Censors who somehow have the power to change books? Or the rights holders who decided to modernize their product?
