There’s no question that the Leafs’ top four forwards are among the best quartets in the league and I like what I’ve seen from Bunting, Jarnrok, Holmberg and Kempt. I think the offence is good enough to compete. They can always add more depth but the priority should be on upgrading the defence for playoff hockey.

The calibre of talent on defence is just nowhere near the offence. Rielly is the highest paid d man but he’s just average on defence and ineffective on quaterbacking the pp with the lack of a lethal point shot. The depth have improved with Liljegren and Timmins but top end talent is missing. The goaltenders will need to have tremendous performances to give them a fair chance in a series against the likes of Lightning and Bruins.

A lot of contracts expire in 2023-4-5.

I can quickly think of 3 trades in sports that mad a huge difference.

1) Phil Esposito trade
2) Carter/Alomar trade
3) Leonard trade

Many pointed to that trade as the move that pushed them over the top, as they went on to win 4 cups in a row. It also started the trade deadline frenzy we experience every year.

I played golf with Billy Harris in Bermuda in the late 90's. I made sure that I made no reference to that trade.

Brings to mind Mike Gartner. In 1994 at the deadline, with about 10 games left in the season, the Rangers traded him to Toronto. Well, as luck would have it, the Rangers went on to win the cup that year. In his stellar career I don't think he ever made it to the final, let alone win a cup.

Possible for the Leafs to lay an egg tonight. They are looking forward to flying south for 6-8 days. Some Leafs are heading to Pearson right after the game. The Bruins probably only have to put in %50 effort and end up with 2 pts. I hope Keefe can manage to get his team to empty the tank tonight.

Boston has lost their last 3 games to TB, Carolina, and Florida with the losses to TB and Carolina on the road in regulation.
Samsonov is 15-1-1 at home.
Leafs play down to lowly teams but play focused against the good teams.
Leafs have a winning record without Matthews.
This is also Boston's last game before the All Star break.

They're also 11 points up on the Leafs with a game in hand. That alone is the bet on the Bruins.
You could say after losing 2 straight they were hungry.

The Leafs suck. Lost to the Bruins 5:2. The only exciting moments were the fights. Simmons punched the Bruins player a few punches and got sent to the penalty box. There was a fight that resulted in 4:4.

Nah, I saw this coming they packed it in looking forward to an 8-day vacation. Be interesting if Dubas gets anyone at the trade deadline.
