That OT goal by Nylander was a thing of beauty. He is playing the best hockey of his career right now and earning very $ of his salary. I'm saying this as a frequent critic of Willy in the past so credit where its due. It seems to me that something happened in the off season to give him extra motivation.

Nylander deserves a big increase next season. If they are paying Mathews and Marner $10 millions each.

I don't know what it is about Arizona but the Leafs just do terrible against this franchise. Look at the head to head the past two decades. Pitiful

Rielly comes back first game and they crap the bed.
That was expected I suppose.
The late turnover by Rielly was a killer but the game should have been put away in the first period and just lock it down or at least play for OT once it was tied.

So they lose against Arizona and go in to Colorado and whip them 6-2. I can't explain that.

They play well against playoff teams and poorly against non-playoff teams.

I think the trick is to avoid the non-playoff teams once they get into the playoffs. ;)

The trick is to play non-playoff teams in the playoffs. Since they can't beat playoff teams in the playoffs.

Glad to see the Leafs beat the defending Stanley Cup champ Avalanche 6:2. Love that empty net goal.
They have also defeated the Tampa Bay Lightlings. They are looking good to
be a playoff candidate. Just have to be able to withstand the NJ Devils.

They are slam dunk to be playing TB first round again.
Home ice to be decided.
No team is catching Boston and no team is catching TB.
Both wild cards will be coming from the Metropolitan Division.
The rest of the season is tuning and loading up to play TB.

I think Boston is 8 ahead. With a bit over half a season to go, that is more than doable. Not easy, but doable.

You mean the team with zero regulation losses in their last 10 and 4 regulation losses all season, that Boston?
The team with the best goalie as measured by both GAA and Save Percentage, that Boston?
The team with the most goals scored and least goals allowed, that Boston?
Boston has a whopping goal differential of +56. The next best is +33 Dallas

They are 8 behind. Does the fact that teams play a certain way in the 1st half, guarantee they play the same way in the 2nd half?

There are dozens of possible eventualities.

It's not just 8 points. They also have a game in hand. So consider it at least 9 and more probable 10 since they don't lose in regulation.
Of course it's possible. Even if they come back down, 8 plus pts is hard to make up considering 3 pt games. Boston is a tank. Their lineup is solid in all areas. There are no weak marks for the playoffs in the Conference. All 8 teams going in will be good. So getting a wild card team is not a walk in the park. They've lost to Columbus and Montreal, granted those are covid years.
Bottom line is just get in and don't choke in game 7.

The only way I see Boston being caught is if Ullmark is not available. He's 20-1-1 with a GAA of 1.90 and SV% of .938
Backup Swayman is 7-3-3 2.68 GAA and SV% .897
