I was impressed with Tavares. The guy is a consummate pro, a real grinder. He's constantly fighting and digging for the puck and he wins a ton of those battles. And he's got a good touch around the net. One can see why he's captain. He sets a great example of how to play the game. Even when he goes on an occasional scoring slump, he still contributes game in and game out.

There aren’t many great Canadian goalies right now in the NHL. Most top ones are Russian, Finnish, Swedish or American. So who would backstop Canada in international competition? Well, there is one Canadian goalie who is top 5 in the league in GAA and SVP. His name is Matt Murray of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Yeah, him.
Leafs are tied for 3rd in GAA with NYI behind only Boston and Jersey.
Dallas is tied for 2nd in goals per game behind only Boston. Leafs are 17th.

Both Samsonov and Murray have played in 9 games.
Kallgren has played in 10 games with a save percentage of .898
yet Leafs are 3rd overall as a team in save percentage with .917
Jets are 2nd with .920 and Boston is first with a remarkable .931

I will say that he hasn't been making as many terrible gaffes the last while, at least that haven't directly resulted in goals.
I got a big laugh when he threw the puck down the ice looking like Matt Chapman last game.
Only 1 goalie has a better save percentage than Murray who has played more games and that's Ullmark with a .939
Hellebuyck also has a .932
As good as Murray has been Samsonov has a better GAA at 2.09

2 dumb penalties, both of which resulted in goals. Murray was mediocre at best.
Calgary can thank them for their single point gained tonight.
Toronto slowly creeping up on the hated bruins. They still have to make up for those 3 games in hand but based on current percentages, bruins will get 5 of those 6 points, meaning they're about 6 points ahead.
'Simmonds is done' is hardly a newsworthy revelation. The only person on the planet that didn't realize that two seasons ago was Kyle Dumbass. The Leafs deserve to suffer for every second they dare to let that stone-handed, cement-headed fool on the ice.
Some people are such haters that they can't admit that the Leafs are on a roll, because and only because they are playing good hockey as assembled by their GM.

Of all the players with 32 or more points (currently 49 of them) Matthews has the most hits with 46 and his 34 blocked shots are only best by Dahlin (who is a defenseman) with 43. Points aside the top 150 block shot leaders are all defensemen. Both Gio and Holl are in top 15.
