RIP Mr. Stewart. Stax was indeed important to the development of black music.

Yesterday was the 29th anniversary of the release of Jodeci's 2nd studio album Diary of a Mad Band. Damn I feel old.
This album is in my top 5 r&b albums of the 1990's. For the better part of 6 months it was on constant rotation. This was one of my favorite tracks from the album

Heard this gem on The Groove earlier today.
Milestone - I Care About You
This group was formed by Kenny 'Babyface' Edmonds and featured his brothers Kevon & Melvin (from After 7) and the two Hailey brothers, K-Ci and Jo Jo, from the group Jodeci. This track was featured on the soundtrack to the movie Soul Food. Its too bad that these guys didn't record any other tracks together.

Early Stax recording. I can't help but think this song was the blueprint for a future song it has that familiar sound

Above the Law were one of my favorite 1990's west coast hip hop groups. The group was comprised of rappers Cold 187 um and KMG the Illustrator and DJ Total K-Oss. This track V.S.O.P. was from their 2nd studio album Black Mafia Life, released in 1992. It features two key samples 'Genius of Love' by Tom Tom Club and 'I Can't Go For That (No Can Do)' by Hall & Oates.

Rest easy Thom Bell. One of the early originators of the sounds of Philadelphia. Writing and/or production credits include I'll Be Around and Could It Be I'm Falling in Love by The Spinners, La La La (Means I Love You) and Didn't I Blow Your Mind This Time by The Delfonics, You Make Me Feel Brand New & You Are Everything by The Stylistics. In 1974 he produced this timeless classic for Dionne Warwick & The Spinners

Earlier this month another 90's hip hop artist passed on. Grand Daddy I.U. was part of the Cold Chillin' records family. I remember his debut album Smooth Assassin. The big song from there was Something New, which sampled James & Bobby Purify's 60's hit 'I'm Your Puppet'.

Only 54 years old. RIP.

I've been playing the discog of the group Change a lot recently. The Miracles album, released in 1981, is a definite hidden gem.

Such a great blend of disco, soul, and dance/electro.

Might as well post on the Christmas theme. First up is Mariah Carey's 'All I Want For Christmas'. Got damn what a voice

Then one that always gets me in the Christmas mood. The pioneers Run DMC with 'Christmas in Hollis'. Featured in the movie Die Hard.

Next up from 1979. Kurtis Blow with 'Christmas Rappin'. Sampled numerous times.

Boyz II Men and Brian McKnight with this gem 'Let It Snow'

In Living Color was an influential comedy series created by the Wayans Bros. Its particularly notable for featuring a young up and coming comedian by the name of Jim Carrey as part of its cast. It aired from 1990-1994.
At the end of every episode they had a musical guest. Here's my boy Guru featuring N'Dea Davenport rocking Trust Me from Jazzmatazz Vol. 1
