Now I don't know much about soccer/football but I'm pretty sure you have to hit the net to score right?

And what's with that Canadian player rolling around on the ground when he got a little hand touch in the face? That's just embarrassing. Watch a hockey game for Christs sake.

Having griped I will admit I thoroughly enjoyed the game and look forward to their next match. I loved the way they kept pressing the play.

Overall, Canada did better than I would expect specifically in the first half. Belgium goalkeeper was exceptional in this game that costed inexperienced Canadian players lost.

The efforts and the skills were there. Hopefully, they could see that for themselves when they take the shots: easy. confident. lightning strikes...

Let's go, Canada!

Spain beats Costa Rica 7-0.
Not a single attempt on goal from the Costa Ricans. Pretty sure I can put together a TERB team that would at least get a an attempt on goal. So disappointed in Costa Rica, it's like they were trying their best at not losing 8-0.

Mingia ce lai...Robert Lewandowski would have scored a brace, at least, with Canadian distribution.

Inexperience did us in, 21 chances created, only three SOG and zero second chances. This is what minnows Italy has to look forward to should they ever qualify. The spike on Laryea should have been a penalty, on the flip side Johnson's near scissor tackle could have been called a red card by a crabbier referee. Just being fair. Belgium played catenaccio, they never had less than five men in the box, then they struck with a lightning counter attack.

Canada did lots of good things, it's not over.
Yep! Did everything right except for that final act in the box. Overall I was still impressed with our performance, much better on the ball and pressing off the ball, like I said, that final act (finishing) in the box let us down, hope the CSA keeps Herdman for 2026. I Think how we perform at this tournament would be a huge factor in attracting players that are eligible to play for us but are on the fence.
This is the same ref from the African Cup earlier this year that ended the game earlier before time was up, twice. Not sure who he was blowing on that FIFA committee that helped him get on the shortlist for the finals.

Canada did as well as could be expected. Alphonso really is top notch.

To be honest I thought Canada dominated the play but didn't have the finishing touch around the goal. If only Davies had scored on that penalty 6 minutes in. That would have made it very interesting.
Before the penalty i was screaming shoot straight dead center of the net…

Ho well at least if Canada plays like that they will win 2 other games.

Davies curled the penalty shot to the right and towards the keeper, thereby shortening the distance the keeper had to travel to save the shot. Terrible. A curled shot by a leftie should be to the left of the keeper and therefore moving away. And then unbelievably head coach Herdman said post match that the decision on who to take the penalty was made on the pitch not before hand by the coach. :(

I thought the same. Good to see them keep pressing even after missing the penalty shot.

To me Belgium represented their biggest challenge in this division and this match could have gone either way.

They must be encouraged by their style of play and know that is on par with the world stage.

I predict they win their last two games.

Even though they lost the game the coach of the Belgian team acknowledged that Canada outplayed them.
Their play in this game demonstrated that they can indeed play with the top teams in the world. Belgium is the number two ranked team in the world and despite the score the Canadian team outplayed them.
I wish them all the best and they still have a chance to go through to the next round.
THEY JUST HAVE TO PUT THE BALL IN THE NET.

That is the truth. I have watched most of the games so far, and there is a catastrophic shortage of good strikers. Some of the top rated teams have this malaise:

Argentina, Denmark, Mexico, Poland, Croatia, Germany Belgium, Canada, to mention some

PS: The commentators during the Canada game drove me to turn off the sound.

Bryan Cristante would not have allowed Kevin de Bryne so much room and Fikayo Tomori would have picked up Batushuayi's run. Hopefully Canada's talent pool wont jump to more "glamorous" Selects in the future.

Btw my wager is still pending, I picked Tajon Buchanan to score Canada's first goal.

I'm picking Cyle Larin.

It has been confirmed the ref suffered heat stroke during the ACON tournament. He performed admirably during this match. Some are saying Canada should have been awarded two more penalties. Hogwash
