I'm not going to get all hysterical about it. Here is one list that has Savard ahead of Salming. Another list has Savard and Salming in a virtual tie.

I appreciate you not getting hysterical about it, I'd also appreciate if you could make your own constructive arguments instead of citing other sources. Gum Worsley would never have become "Gump Worsley" unless he had gone to the Habs. He was an amazing goalie even with a garbage Rangers team but got his dues playing with a great team, you get my point?

And by the way, this is a thread to honour Salming, why are you so compelled to prove your detractors right about you for hijacking every thread?

Just doing a bit of comparing Salming to some other NHL defensemen of his era.

As good as they are, Salming, Savard and Park never won the Norris.

Trophies are hollow, Randy Carlyle won the Norris, not a chance in hell freezing over is he better than Borje the Giant. Only Orr, Robinson and Lidstrom are in Borje's class.

I love it.

I wish that more people would call him out. I get a bad rep because I'm the most vocal. But I am right. He constantly does it and attempts to justify it with the lamest of excuses. It is extremely disrespectful.

And Dan Marino was more talented than 90% of the quarterbacks who won a Superbowl.

Using Dart logic, AKA Bizarro logic, Doug Williams was a better QB than Dan Marino

I'd put Denis Potvin up there as well. He wasn't as flashy as the others, but he was a rock. Tough, strong, punishing and extremely consistent. He could also handle the puck. His career overlapped Orr and Robinson and he won more than his share of Norris awards.

I forget the exact details, but it's something like this: Since he was a rookie, he was on the ice for every single Islander power play goal for about the 1st 5 or 6 years.

It appears no player won the Norris as a Maple Leaf.

The point I'm making is that Salming is one of two or three or four really good NHL defensemen who never won the Norris. Another one of Salming's contemporaries who also never won the Norris is Scott Stevens.

Comparing Salming to his contemporaries is not hijacking this thread.

BTW: Dan Marino is the best QB to never win the SB and better than some/many/most QB's who did win the SB.

No? What about these posts and Joliet's Wikipedia page? They are clearly hijacking the thread. They have nothing to do with Salming or his contemporaries. Of course using your Bizarro logic, talking about any defenceman in the history of hockey would be on topic because Salming was a defenceman. And of course you chose a Montreal player, your standard operating procedure. Talking about Salming's contemporaries, like Savard, is more subtle but hijacking non the less.

I grimaced again when I saw that video. How could the Habs have allowed an 83 year old out on the ice with skates. He fell twice. Lucky he didn't break a hip. At his age a broken hip is a death sentence.
I'm always a bit worry when the teams bring out the old timers. He was in his 70's. I thought he risked breaking a hip when he fell (twice).

"In a 1985 Montreal Canadiens Old-Timers game, Joliat skated around the Montreal Forum to a huge ovation as a "special treat" for the fans. Despite falling twice over TV cables on the ice, he quickly stood up and finished his skate, the trademark black cap he wore back in his playing days held in his hand.[citation needed]"
Aurèle Joliat - Wikipedia
And asking about Leaf Norris winners is blatantly taking a shot at the Leafs and their fans.

It appears no player won the Norris as a Maple Leaf.

Probably true. Best in Leaf history, although Tim Horton is also on Legends Row.

Some old timers might argue Red Horner, King Clancy and Hap Day.

The best defenseman the Leafs ever had never played defense for them........Red Kelly.
