That list is kaka, Borje should be at least No. 3...Dartsy you insult my intelligence again.

Mats Sundin, stoic as ever. At first I thought Darryl, Borje and Lanny should be together, then I understood why Mats was between then. If Borje stumbled, Mats would prop him up without it looking awkward. Darryl is over 70 and Lanny is almost there, it may have looked messy. Mats is a big boy and a spry 50.

IV, these are not my lists. I didn't even know the Maple Leafs had their own top 100 list until recently.

Mats Sundin, stoic as ever. At first I thought Darryl, Borje and Lanny should be together, then I understood why Mats was between then. If Borje stumbled, Mats would prop him up without it looking awkward.
Now the standing arrangement makes sense. Borje did look awfully frail. I thought there was a real risk he could fall or at least stumble.

Darryl is over 70 and Lanny is almost there, it may have looked messy. Mats is a big boy and a spry 50.
Wow! Time does fly. Darryl is 72. He's from the same generation as Guy Lafleur (R.I.P.).

Mats looks like he'd be a good 3rd line center for the current Leafs.

On (Thursday 17th) Borje was given the NHL Honorary Award:

Swedish hockey celebrate 100 years with a gala. NHL honorary award goes to Börje Salming, the Swedish people also voted the most iconic hockey moment involving Salming.

After the gala, Börje Salming’s wife told the media that Börje isn’t doing more public appearances.

”We’re not doing this anymore. We’re shutting the door, now it’s all about family,” Pia said.
Pia Salming also explained just how Börje Salming had the energy to make public appearances both in Toronto and Stockholm.

” It’s his personality. He’s really tired, but this is the last thing we’re doing. But it’s so important to him. It’s how he is as a person.”

I felt emotional in a different way from when he fought Schultz, got attacked by Bridgeman, got cut by a skate in the face, & took a stick to the eye. God Speed. <3<3<3

Curious. Do you know what that most iconic moment was? Getting cheered at MLG before Sweden vs. Canada?

So sad. He really looked deathly ill during his appearance in Scotia Arena. Rest in peace.

(One never knows in this life. I recently looked up a friend from my Montreal days and was shocked to learn that he passed at age 56. His wife also passed.)

RIP Borje. Thanks for the great memories. It was a joy watching you play hockey, and an honour having you represent our city. 😥

Here's the start of the hijack.

Did your friend have ALS?

What's your justification for this off-topic tale? Borje died and you know somebody who also died and that means you are on topic? Everybody knows somebody who died.

Why can't you stop being so rude? Nobody is interested in your meaningless and purposeless vignettes.

RIP to #21. It was such a joy watching him play.

I had a very brief encounter with him

I went to Europe in the summer of '77. While in Sweden I ran into a guy who said that he'd known Borje and asked me to deliver a note for him which he then wrote.

Amazing that I didn't lose it. My dad's company had season tickets and I used to go down to MLG maybe 5 or 6 times a season. First game I went to, I took the note and as the 1st period was winding down, I managed to make my way to the area where the players would walk from the bench to the dressing room. (I don't think they'd allow me to stand there nowadays.) Anyways, as Borje is about to walk right by me, I held out the note and told him it was from a friend. Without breaking stride, he grabbed it from my hand and continued on.

And that's my Borje Salming encounter. I did say it was brief.

I have a hunch that Borje went out medically assisted. The later stages of ALS are horrific, he probably didn't want his family to endure it.

Farewell Gigantic Hero.
Yeah that makes sense when I think about it.

He had one last big moment though. How many are able to say that?

Maybe Darts can talk about the Richard ovation at the old Forum. Another moving send off.....

Back in the late 70s, I went down to the Gardens on a weekday to see if I could scratch up some tickets. A few players walked by and he followed behind on his own, I said Hi BJ, he looked at me and gave me that grin and said How's it going as he walked by. I still feel like a kid when I remember.

I was in a car dealership with my father when I got the notification of his passing this afternoon. It was particularly sad for my dad because when I was a kid, Salming was his idol. He loves Salming.

I was going to suggest the same thing quoted above. The final stages of ALS are absolutely horrific. Not only are you on your deathbed for a prolonged period of time, but you lose every single function including breathing. I was at the Saturday night game, the second night of the Salming tribute. He wasn’t doing very well unfortunately, but he was standing. He was also walking…..assisted, but walking. That’s not the final stages of ALS. This is a really sad day. He meant so much, to so many.

I was working as a dishwasher at the Diner's lounge in Terminal 1 at Pearson when the Leafs passed through. This is the fall of 78, I carefully washed and dried my hands, I wasn't going to miss the opportunity to meet my hero. I didn't want an autograph, not my style, I just wanted to say hello. He shook my hand, I now forget what he said to me but I'll always remember his face. There were no airs on it, he was as genuine as could be.

Notice the pic, he crossed arms with Darryl out of kinship, he crossed arms with Mats for support. Stoic Mats appears to be getting emotional.
