Alphonso Davies appeared to pull his hamstring today in Bayern vs Hertha Berlin match earlier today. He looks doubtful for Canada's first World Cup match on November 23 against the always under-achieving Belgium.
The World Cup normally started in July, a month after soccer in Europe shut down. This gave injured players time to heal. This year, the tournament was shifted to start November 20 to escape the oppressive Qatar summer heat. This is just a week after soccer in Europe shuts down. With almost all influential players from all countries plying their trade in Europe, the compressed schedule will hit several countries like a jack hammer. Kante, Pogba of France are out. Varane from France is doubtful. South Korea's Son is doubtful. And so on.
Qatar should never have been awarded the World Cup. But the world is paying for the thievery of Seth Blatter and his FIFA board. Very sad.
Anyway, here we are. The CMNT played well when Alphonso was sidelined during the late qualifiers. Perhaps they can duplicate that feat if he doesnt recover.
Germany and Spain are shells of their former great selves making Brazil the clear favorite followed by Argentina.
