The linked article explicitly describes how affirmative action favours one minority group at the expense of another minority group (i.e. Asians). Lesser qualified applicants are admitted to university while better qualified Asians are denied.
Higher ed vs. Asian students in Supreme Court's Harvard discrimination case (nypost.com)
I gave no idea whether Asians are disadvantaged or not but AA was and is intended to redress historical wrongs created by many, many years of institutional and academic discrimination. Although the situation is certainly better there is still a long way to go.

In any event AA is constantly misrepresented by the right. Race is only one of many criteria. No one is getting into university who is not qualified and even those who are given a little help still have to pass the same exams etc.

Other than wealthy WASP, who among us did not face discrimination? Irish Catholics, Jews, etc. all faced many years of institutional and academic discrimination. Yet, where is the AA for Irish Catholics and Jews? They compete on a level playing field with all other applicants. No favourtism because of historical injustices.

The SCOTUS should abolish AA. Admission to universities should be race blind. (I attended McGill University and I know there was a quota that limited Jewish students for decades.)

'redress historical wrongs' ??

I suspect you meant address historical wrongs
mankind's history (not people kinds) has been defined by conflict,
brutal, cruel and evil conflict
you will be hard pressed to find even a 20 year period in recorded history where there was no war somewhere on the planet

Attempts to address historical wrongs have been a disaster (The Treaty of Versailles) and just set the stage for future conflicts

you cannot fix history & you cannot produce equality of outcomes

remove discriminatory barriers ? absolutely, equality of opportunity is an achievable goal

and yet the economically clueless AOC (Green New Deal) obtained an supposed economics degree

I am an old Jew and I did experience a few pretty minor instances of antisemitism years ago but to compare my experiences, even in Canada, to that of blacks is absurd. I cannot speak for Asians or Irish etc. but your point is preposterous.

You obviously never applied for admission to McGill back in the day. I wouldn't be surprised if other Canadian universities had similar restrictive admmision policies back then. I'm saying that other than wealthy WASPs every group has faced discrimination.

I am not disagreeing with you but the comparison in terms of scope and degree is preposterous and historically wrong.

Even with affirmative action it has never been based strictly upon race just as it has never been just about academic merit. Most business and professional schools require an essay of some sort and evidence of community service or involvement etc.
A well written essay and community service are both examples of merit though.... Whereas race is a superficial descriptor.

I have no problem with race, religion, gender etc. being among them. Professions etc. Universities, professions etc should reflect the community. When a community is vastly underrepresented one could fairly wonder why. It is trite to say that when kids grow up in a community of doctors and lawyers etc it is more likely that they will aspire to that kind of thing and likely have some ad advantage in SATs etc. And don't get me started on legacy students and parents who can make large endowment contributions or who play golf with the dean of admission. The system is skewed and a program to address historical and current inequities are a good thing for society.

If the need arises, I prefer to go to one of the better hospitals. ...
And you clearly tied your definition to "affirmative action".

No surprise that you think a person who got into university because of affirmative action is incompetent, even if the then graduated at the top of their class.

Amazing! Affirmative Action students graduate at the top of their class. Was the fix in? Where are the stats?

I said this before and I'll say it again. Don't allow race to be a factor in who gets admitted to university.

So conspiracy theories. Nice. Do you not believe that black or Hispanic students can be at the top of their classes?

So you want to go back to the previous system where 'race wasn't a factor' and it just was coincidence that almost all graduates were white?

The problem is the candidates getting in are still from wealthy and connected families. These elite institutions, other than a few tokens, only let in upper economic tier students.

So the real inequity hasn't been redressed. That of getting lower income individuals deserving by merit of placement in these elite schools. Just different coloured already rich and powerful/connected kids.

The fool Justin had the responsibility to all Canadians to choose the very best person to manage very important cabinet positions in 2015
he chose his cabinet via boy/ girl/ boy / girl, despite the fact there were far more male liberal MP candidates
he did this because
a) he is stupid
b) virtue signaling
He is the poster boy for SJW.
