The dense wall of hate among Russians is the weirdest and most intriguing aspect of all this. They clearly feel entitled to rule Ukraine despite the wishes of the inhabitants. There must a heavy culture re Russia's "destiny" to rule the Slavic world to produce such a bizarre attitude.

The American parallel is the assumption that the rest of the world wants to be a liberal democracy, despite ample proof that Vietnam, Iraq and Afghanistan wanted to be something quite different. It's a matter of what you are brought up to consider normative, I guess.

In Solovyov's defence - and god knows why I am doing this! - in 2008, Ukraine was run by a crony puppet of The Poo's and was considered a decent, submissive, properly respectful vassal country by the Russian authorities. Thus they were assured that they would not be killed. Everything changed in 2014, of course.
They also needed to get their nukes back...

Putin now targeting energy sources in Ukraine, has knocked out 30% in the last week.
Mostly with those Iranian drones, it appears.
It is his Hail Mary pass and he's going to try to freeze Ukraine and its European supporters into submission over the winter if he can hang on.
