So, we all agree California's best days are history although we might disagree on the reasons why.

Next, are NY's best days history? Ok, we can make that another thread.

A lot of wealthy people are moving out of California to Florida, Texas and Nevada. Why? No state income taxes.

Probably because DeSantis.
Actually I think it is because although taxes are lower in FL they miss the big apple. A lot of people who moved to FL thought they could live in FL and work remotely in NY. This is proving not to be the case.

The homeless situation there is nasty. And it isn't just in the larger urban areas. When I was there a few months ago it was in smaller towns, on beach areas, everywhere.

Out front of a restaurant nice cars, out back an encampment by the dumpster. And all the attendant drug use, petty crime, threatening behavior, and loss of peace that goes with it.

It reaaly is a bad situation due to income inequality. And people are moving for the simple reason of its the tenth car break in, third house break in, daily needle checks of yards, and they ate now camping on suburban streets. They don't feel safe raising families.

Wealthy people don't pay taxes in the US
The right wingers are once again living in denial with regards to California's Economy that is the driving force behind the USA economy in general.
Los Angeles was always known as the "Homeless Capital" of the USA since 1984. Republican Governors that were in charge from 1982 to 1998, did nothing but increased the homelessness over time. The Democratic Governors have since been trying to address the situation. But the blame will always be pointed at the backs of the Democrats by the right wingers!!

Homelessness in Florida
12,672 were unsheltered and 14,815 were sheltered.

How California Homelessness Became A Crisis : Planet Money : NPR
Jun 8, 2021 — As of January 2020, California alone had about 151,000 inhabitants experiencing homelessness.

Both states have the warm weather and acess to beaches that the homeless prefer

However it is not really a close comparison
Califormia is the left leaning nanny state, ........ come on in

They can’t even keep the lights on. There is a massive heat wave hitting the western US this weekend and California has already told its residents to expect rolling blackouts because of expected high demand for air conditioning.

I wouldn't be surprised if populations in many US states (and Canadian provinces!) has declined slightly due to immigration stalling out due to Covid.

Are you really going to blame homelessness in San Francisco on right wing policy?

Its all about rents and property value. And how the tech boom (your economic driver) caused it. Coupled with the Entertainment industry.

Its happening in every state. You will find mass homeless camps in Nevada, New Jersey, Penn State, Ohio, Michigan, Georgia, etc etc . After the banks foreclosured on 500,000 homes in 2008 after they were given corporate welfare those homes were sold to rental speculators. Who jacked rents. Or left them empty.

And no this shouldn't be a normal state of things in the richest nation in the history of the planet. And it wasnt until recently. The last time it was this bad was during the Depression

The drought in the southwest is massive and epic. Its not just California.
Now Texas is running out of water.
