The problem is that such robbers are not the most rational man. Often high/drunk. You do not want to be close to them, so, sometimes, simply going outside the house is not easy (you cannot fly through the window). Sometimes they may change their mind about why they are there and decide to rape your wife/daughter. Sometimes they may simply do not like how you look. I would rather shoot than try to figure out how sane the person who broke into my house is. What if he is a basketcase? :)
Again, exceedingly rare.

One thing I like about this thread is Canadian laws agree with me and they show no sign of changing.

In fact...

And yes, the murder charges are for the resident killing the kid who allegedly broke in.

I posted an article about three “home invasions” as stated in the news headline....
And my question was about killings. Too tough for you to find cases of murder in a home invasion that wasn't gang related?

How many make it a problem?
If you're not crawling around in the underworld, the odds of someone breaking into your home for the express purpose of harming you are literally about nil.

My brother-in-law is a cop. According to him, the most likely time of day someone will burgle your home/do a break in is during a weekday in the morning or afternoon when you're at work. Criminals breaking into your home have absolutely no interest in getting into a confrontation with you -- they want to quickly get in, grab what they want and leave.

If the people breaking into your home are looking for a confrontation, you're almost certainly a criminal just like them.

How many people being accidentally shot by legal guns make a problem?

Letting paranoid gun owners keep loaded guns in easy access is creating more potential problems and based on what we see in the states, does nothing to reduce the number of robberies.

The words of comfort are when your insurance sends you a cheque for what was stolen rather than potentially being on trial for killing someone who broke in. Worse, when you accidentally shoot someone you care about or your kids start playing with the guns.

Actually. I never mentioned guns. I would quite happily use an axe on a home invader.

No problem. Just claim you were drunk when you killed them. That would absolve you of responsibility in your world.
