This idea that the Flying Frenchmen system was goaltending and defense is silly. Those positions are not exactly know as flying.
The had a strong farm system and with the introduction of the draft, territorial rights to Quebec. It is no coincidence that when these two advantages subsided so did Montreal's success.

I'd hazard a guess that Montreal tried to get the best players they could regardless of position. They sure didn't pass on great forwards like, Newsey, The Rocket, the Roadrunner, Boom Boom, Gay Flower and of course the greatest of them all John Kordic. Off hand being a casual fan I can only name 1 defender before the modern era, Big Bird. Sure they had goaltenders but 1 spot on the team, keep them around often enough, it isn't a proof of a system over just lucky.

Are you saying there is no such thing as a trademarked Montreal system that I keep hearing about that goes on and on and ...

But for some reason they decided not to use it for the last 30 years.

I asked darts a legitimate question, "Why this is the case?"

He has failed to provide an intelligent or informed response that a respectable poster would provide.

Do you have any idea why he has not responded?

Wright looks to be a solid two way centre who is strong in all areas of the ice but as you said not a generational talent offensively by any stretch of imagination.

The thinking is he could be like Patrice Bergeron.

And if could fulfill or come close to those expectations then the Habs would be thrilled I'm sure.
I've seen him play a few times and that assessment seems to be sound. In addition to Bergeron, Kirk Muller and Jonathan Toews are other possible comparators if he reaches his ceiling. Nick Suzuki shares some of the same attributes, so the Habs could end up with 2 top centres that have similar playing styles. Neither has blazing speed.

Muller I was considering as a possible comparison as well.

Toews --- 3 Cups in his first 8 years. Never scored more than 35 goals in a season. Proof you don't need to score a ton of goals to win Cups.

Seriously.
Well in the 85/86 season John Kordic scored 0 goals and 1 assist and Montreal won the Stanley cup, I guess that's proof that you don't need any goals to get the cup.

In the 3 Stanley Cup seasons, Toews scored 25, 23 and 28 goals in the regular season. Definitely not a ton of goals, but also definitely much more than 0.

So, Shane Wright might not score a lot of goals but all is good if the Habs as a team do well.

A lot of Shane Wright's potential to do well would hinge on the particular system play the Habs coach of the day chooses to employ. If it were, for instance, to be something akin to the old NJ Devils neutral zone trap model, many players might find it dificult to adapt and find success in their personal game.

Those Cup winning Chicago teams were stacked. It wasn't just Toews just as it's not just Matthews. Chicago had players like HOFamer Hossa, Big Buff, Patrick Sharp, Andrew Ladd, Brandon Saad, Kris Versteeg, Dave Bolland, Duncan Keith, Brent Seabrook, Brian Campbell, John Madden (Selke winner). Oh, and some guy named Pat Kane. And other's I'm sure I missed.

Young Shane will love Montreal.

""I think it'd just be extra special to be drafted by Montreal," Wright said. "Obviously, first of all, it's the dream come true of just being drafted. And then to be drafted first overall by a franchise in such an unbelievable city with that sort of fan base and the history around that organization would be pretty incredible. Definitely a lifelong dream come true for sure.""

"Wright has been compared to Boston Bruins center Patrice Bergeron."

""I think Bergeron is a really good comparison for me," he said. "I really like the way he plays. He's an elite offensive player, no doubt about that. He can score goals and make plays. But what really gets noticed for him is his defensive play and his ability to play 200 feet and play in all different situations. I think that's a type player I see myself as, someone who can do a lot of good things right and can be trusted in a lot of different situations.""

Worst coach in the NHL…good thing for him his GM is his friend from college.
Upon what facts exactly are you making the above assertions?
