Well, on the bright side of this.......

The Supreme Court just helped the Democrats win this coming November.

Up until yesterday, it looked like the Democrats were going to be annihilated in November's midterm elections. That just changed last night. Now the Democrats have a fighting chance. Maybe even a good chance in the upcoming midterms. Oh, you can bray away about red states and all that, but even red state women get abortions. Probably in greater numbers per capita than blue state women. In fact, even the most conservative women in the reddest of red states have had abortions. Don't ever kid yourselves. I think a great many conservative women are (quietly) in favour of abortion rights and they are not going to take kindly to this sort of thing. And those purple states? Well, they just turned a bluer shade of purple which is all it takes.

Oh the irony.

This is only going to galvanize the women including the 69% of the Americans who are Pro-Abortion, and polarize the USA even more during the oncoming Mid Terms.
Is abortion a major or the most major issue facing the majority of Americans? How many abortions are performed in the U.S. annually? If abortion is banned in the U.S., will Canada be flooded with a wave of if American abortion seekers?

It is a well established fact that the number of abortions in a country is independent of the legislation. What changes with legislation is the means of abortion, illegal or legal, medically safe or by quacks.
Rich people will get safe abortions, poor people will not.

Why is that "where they belong" and why is that good, JC?

Let's talk about this.
It's a state matter because states diverge from one another politically, socially and demographically. On top of that healthcare delivery is best done on the state level just as it's done in Canada, for example. And why is it good? Isn't it obvious? Democracy - something you lefties love to bring up. This way, instead of a bunch of federal judges, the people will have a say on the matter. You should be happy since you love democracy so much.

The only common culture of USA as a country is militarism and pugnacity, and an absence of other rules.
I would say bad food habits and self aggrandizement

It is the right ruling if you want a loose coalition of separate states, each with its own culture and laws.
That is where USA has always been balancing, even to the extent of a civil war.

Countries are held together by common beliefs and culture.

The only common culture of USA as a country is militarism and pugnacity, and an absence of other rules.
The founding principle of the USA is personal freedom. That's why they are structured politically the way they are. And, following that model, they became the most successful nation in the world in many important metrics. It's hard to argue why their model is wrong, or vastly inferior to other societal models. The Civil War could have ended this uniting principle, but miraculously it did not. There's a lesson to be taken from that about the strength of freedom as a uniting principle.

Now Canada, that's where I can agree with you. Canada never had a common culture or common beliefs. It is a partnership born of economic convenience. That convenience (and economic opportunity) are what permitted the merger (or at least co-operation) of two very different cultures, as well as the integration of people from cultures around the world. Essentially, Canada was a place to work and prosper. However, we then went probing for a singular "identity" and common values when Trudeau Sr. tried to artificially create them by adopting the Charter. However, that did not serve to unify Canadian society. It just created a grievance culture where the minority can oppress the majority. This phenomenon is vastly different from respecting individual freedom, because it results in demands for conformity, only coming from the minority.

So, I think the jury is still out on what is needed to hold countries together, but there is certainly no basis to sneer at the American model.

Politico just published the story. Did you expect them to sit on it???
If it fits your narrative you run it. If it doesn't fit your narrative you bury it. This is how the media works.

Trump is smiling today
No he's not. If he's smiling right now, it's because he's planning to head over to McDonalds right about now.

Trump never gave a flying fuck about abortion rights either way. I'd bet everything I own that he's impregnated scores of women over the years who have had abortions (which they would probably would have had to paid for).

Nope, Bonespurs only cares about Bonespurs. With him, it was all about scoring votes with the rabid rightwing. Those votes benefited him.

The Orange Turd doesn't have an ideological bone in his body. He is a populist and a self absorbed small pricked man at that who will do whatever benefits him the most. And fuck the rest of you.

That's the prevailing wisdom, yet when you look closer at the polls regarding abortion, the picture is not so clear nor the conclusions obvious.

Why would your alleged "divergence" affect basic individual rights? Do you believe that Brampton should have different legal rights than downtown Toronto because the ethnic mix is different?

Surely basic individual rights and values are nationwide.

And no, the "lefties" don't say that democracy is all powerful. Most intelligent people - i.e. "lefties" - say that individual rights should be protected at all times from opportunistic political attack. Don't you "righties" jerk off over the US Constitution which was drafted and enacted and interpreted to do exactly what I just described.

C'mon, JC. You're a smart guy. Come up with something a little better to give me a real discussion on this topic.

This is the most important story in US politics in the last 20 years. Any outlet would publish it. It would be journalistic malpractice not to run it.

Because abortion like death sentence, age of majority or euthanasia is NOT a basic right . It's a healthcare decision to be regulated like any other issue.

It ain't over til it's over. Ukraine and Roe will change the dynamic of US politics for the next few years.

Like I wrote, threatening and buggering away at Roe has been a fun game for rightie politicians. But be careful what you wish for because you might just get a tidal wave of backlash.

I'm not sure why you stuck "age of majority" in there, but the other 3 would appear to be pretty damn personal and basic. Next time someone "regulates health care" be deciding that your dick gets cut off, you can give them your support.

Well, you would think any outlet would have published the Harvey Weinstein multiple rape accusations also...but NBC buried it as long as they could.

It's not journalistic malpractice to not report on information that was obtained the way it was, which was someone breaking the law and their judicial oath for political purposes. All this information would come out when the SCOTUS was ready to release their decision on the matter.

I think you are arguing yourself into a corner here.

If abortion is a health care decision, why should politicians decide on the treatment? Should diabetes treatment and cancer treatment be decided by voting? There may be a majority against prostate cancer treatments. LOL.

If it is not a medical issue, surely it is up to the person to decide.
