Well Metro is based on racism so a mistake. It comes from the Greek metropolis - the city and is the root of toxic masculinity and the core of the birth of white supremacy - Still as long as they null and void all the university degrees given out from those who particated in the Ryerson racism all should be good. And al the old staff should be terminated for a fresh start. Then they can try again with the name. What can you do without CRT from Ford leading the way?

Canada has names befitting a colonial past. By today’s logic, almost any place or institution name that is not “First Nations” like Toronto or Seneca is potentially on the hit list for removal, especially if a politician can get some traction of this nomenclature nixing.

Is a pretty safe choice, soon everyone will be referring to it asTMU.
It will catch on and soon Ryerson will be forgotten.

They should have held out for a big name sponsor to get some revenue generation going from naming rights...like maybe 'The Derek Zoolander Centre for Kids Who Can't Read Good'. Derek is a big name in the fashion industry and the university could have scored big in terms of naming rights monetization with him as their patron. He even kept Mugatu from killing the Prime Minister of Malaysia - never hurts to have a true hero associated with your institution.

It's too late now, but imagine if they could have gotten Will Smith!? Think of it - the 'Will Smith University of Slaps and Giggles'. Instant global recognition.

Is it really considered a great university? It hasn't even been an actual university very long.

Does it rank highly in surveys? How many world class programs do they have. My impression is that their journalism program is good. Anything else?

That colonial past just happened to build a country that is amongst the best in the world. Were there unjust things that happened along the way? Of course. But at least we don't still live a lifestyle like people did 300 years ago.

Agreed, and I am sure that you aware of the long line up of people attempting to immigrate to Canada for many reasons.

As always, John, I heed your advice. ;)

World ranking, #829

Canadian ranking. #25

More meh than great.
The rankings are mostly subjective and in some cases for lip service and prestige only. In 2022, I know of graduates of Toronto Metropolitan University( aka “Rye High” in some colloquial circles) that have put good use to their education from this excellent polytechnical University and have good well paying jobs in contrast to graduates of significantly ”higher ranking “ schools that are either unemployed, unemployable or waiting tables out of province so as not to meet anyone that might recognize them.

And there are many success stories of people who only had high school or less education. It is more about the person than the education.

Do you have examples of polls/educational experts that have subjectively given Ryerson significantly higher rankings?

To be fair, if we were able to go into the pre history, man of those first nations names probably wouldn't past muster either. The Iroquois confederacy managed to wipe out several tribes including the original inhabitants of the St Laurence valley, but it doesn't stop them from claiming to have been here forever and have supported by acknowledgments from Eastern Ontario health unit and a plaque in the Saunders dam. Who knows what sort of bullshitery they did that left no record.
But much like Joseph Brant whose name is on everything and whose slave owning is OK, I guess they are on a hierarchy of oppression where they must not be held accountable for past genocides. It would be a bit like an alternative world where the Nazis hold on and Poland being recognized as Germanic land.

Never mind those "first nations" acknowledgments are extremely racist in their own right.
Just imagine if someone in the UK Parliament started their speeches by acknowledging they were on the traditional lands of the English people or even the Catuvellauni and Regni. Europe would blow up. Ditto if the Germans in Berlin would acknowledge they were on the traditional lands of the Semnones people. Folks would absolutely blow up.

Facts are, people equals shit. All people. The only difference is who has the guns and butter and who doesn't. Do sob for those who lost in history is to ignore their basic humanity.
People have only recently on the historical scale become less shit.

I cannot sight polls or educational experts but I noticed that Waterloo and Ryerson both share very good reputations for their co-op program rankings.
