It’s looking like the Leafs will be hosting Tampa…. They have a point, and a game in hand. C892C09F-599D-4562-ABAA-B11440E589D3.png

Always so quiet in this thread when the Leafs struggle to beat, or outright lose to a bottom dweller. Where, oh where, are the defenders of the faith to explain it all to the hoi polloi?

Clearly, you are correct. Can't argue with that.

However, please don't be upset when my observation is that we hear a lot less from you when Leafs are going well.

You're not wrong. I am in fact not a core Leafs fan, but rather a NYR fan. That said, while I would like to see the Leafs finally have some serious success I'm not a rah rah tire pumper at any cost for them, so you won't see me going over the top at every little success the Leafs have. My posting history would show that I've been positive when it called for it, and equally negative when it was (at least IMO) called for it. Some only ever want to pump tires, and use it as a weapon against others with opposing view points. Guess the truth about the Leafs isn't something that everyone is comfortable dealing with. I just find it funny is all. Carry on carrying on...

Did everybody like the plug Mr Self-righteous gave the Kitchener AAA Girls team coached by Jeff Sittler on the post game show following the Leafs game…great longtime rivalry, Toronto wins 3-2, Auston Matthews gets two more, but that idiot mentions something that no one gives a fuck about to open.
Mr. Self-Righteous is a gentlemanly way of saying Yellow Racist Cunt. Don Cherry was an opportunist, never a coward.

Standing up for yourself and being a dirty player are two different things. You can play with toughness without cross-checking someone in the neck or low in the back from behind, slashing them in the face, or spearing them in the nuts. When I see Matthews doing the latter things, yeah I'm gonna dump on him. I don't like that stuff. If you think that stuff equates to standing up for yourself or playing a tough game, that's fine - you're entitled to your opinion.
Malkin suspended 4 games for an overt cross-check to the face of Nashville’s Mark Borowiecki. Should be more. He could have seriously fucked the guy up with that dirty play, which came right after a vicious slash that broke the dude's stick clean off at the butt end. Malkin's a superstar talent, just like Matthews, but he should be done for the season. Player safety got it wrong.

Good for Malkin, that should discourage some of that behind the play nonsense.
I like it when honest respectable superstars show their teeth once in a while.
Guys, especially lower level guys, are constantly trying to get under their skin, egging them on, they won't try it with
heavy weight fighters though.

If that's what you like to see happen on the ice as a spectator, I guess that's cool. Wonder how you'd feel if you were playing beer league hockey and someone cross-checked your face into the parking lot, spreading your teeth out under all the cars parked in the slush. Don't forget that the injury Malkin inflicted is very real. Are you saying it was deserved, so therefore you're ok with that?

No, I don't like seeing it as a spectator, I'm not a fan of fighting either.
But sometimes you have to fight for territory and sometimes you have to respond to send a clear message.
If it was deserved I'm ok with it, Malkin's reputation speaks for itself.

What do you believe is Malkin's reputation?

And as an aside, I don't believe there is ever any justification to deliberately inflict a severe physical injury on another player. Period.

That's not a fair comparison...the beer league guys are out for a friendly skate, shoot the puck around, have a few laughs...you cross check someone in the face and you'd get kicked out of the league, by your own team!

Players like Malkin take crap and usually don't respond, and players usually give it to them knowing they won't respond, good for them in responding.

If you have to point out something that obvious there's no point, don't bother.

A while back, it was if you rough up a teams leading scorer per say, expect your leading scorer to get the same treatment as retribution...its the reason teams don't run goalies.

Well, using that analogy, my point was that at an individual level, a severe injury is a severe injury. Doesn't matter if you're a pro or an enthusiast. Just because you're a pro doesn't mean that you expect and accept the fact that in the course of playing a game someone may inflict a serious physical injury on you outside the reasonable conduct of a game. Borowiecki should not expect and accept that based on the normal rough and tumble of a pro game, it's reasonable that Malkin deliberately cross-checks him in the face knocking out his teeth, causing jaw damage, concussion, maybe even kill him. He shouldn't expect and accept that any more than joe average should expect it in the beer league. Being a Professional doesn't mean you need to expect extraordinary violence and extraordinary injuries during the course of a typical game.

If sending a message means breaking your opponent's face, I'm sorry, I'm not on board with that. It's not what hockey players sign up for. They are all consistently clear on that. That's why these types of incidents are few and far between, and why player safety severely punishes the worst and most frequent offenders.
