When Marchand flicked his stick on Jarry there was no brawl. No one made a move. Crosby was right behind him. Just skated away. This is what Marchand is looking for. A reaction. You think doing anything to Marchand will deter him? Marchand will do his Marchand thing regardless of what you do. In fact he wants you to lose your cool.

Btw, when Toronto beat Boston it was their 3rd game in 4 days. With parts of the game without 2 of their right D and their rookie goalie coming in cold. Wonder what the excuse is for them winning.

Some just look for anything...if they lost the game, fine...but they won...

Despite they’re failure to get up against the weakest teams, and the goaltending issues, is this the best Leaf team since the turn of the century?

How specifically was I wrong in my evaluation? What specific evidence of grit and toughness did you see? Who was it exactly that made Taylor Hall and Brad Marchand pay/regret their transgressions? The only consequences I saw were a minor penalty to Hall and a trivial fine, and nothing regarding Marchand. Kinda feels like BOS took liberties with a physically intimidated Leafs team.
On the other hand you dump on Matthews when he stands up for himself.

He pays a price playing like that against other team but not against the Leafs.Toronto is the only team which allows its captain to absorb cross checks like a sponge and a teammate got sucker punched without responding. Boston decided to rough up the Leafs after they scored six and promptly the Leafs allowed the next three goals.

Right, but when we had a guy like Kadri that would engage in that style and seek retribution, everyone cried and chased him out town because he got suspended. So it's a no win situation.

Without playoff success, this is the best team of the new millennium. Other than that the best Leaf team was the 2001-2002 Leafs winning a few playoff rounds.

I liked how Kadri played when he was a Leaf, well, 98% of the time. The only times I didn’t like was when he lost his mind at the worst times (playoffs) and didn’t pick the right targets. He should’ve gone after either Bergeon or Pasternak as retaliation for the Bruins‘ targeting Marner and Matthews. He was not the type of players that Dubas liked and he gave Dubas good reasons to get rid of him.

Standing up for yourself and being a dirty player are two different things. You can play with toughness without cross-checking someone in the neck or low in the back from behind, slashing them in the face, or spearing them in the nuts. When I see Matthews doing the latter things, yeah I'm gonna dump on him. I don't like that stuff. If you think that stuff equates to standing up for yourself or playing a tough game, that's fine - you're entitled to your opinion.

My God...You say Matthews is bad but you'll stand up for Marchand who is the dirtiest player in the game.

Please quote the post where I'm 'standing up for Marchand' and advocating/endorsing his style of play.
