The USA has imposed the toughest sanctions ever against Russia, and they have the backing of all the NATO and other EU Nations. Under trump the sanctions were just unilateral with other NATO Members not even consulted about it. But the sanctions now have included the NS2 as there is a legitimate reason to currently impose them. Trump's praise of Putin throughout his reign has really meant that Putin does have his monkey up and thinks that he is a "Genius" in how he is conducting himself!! Did You want the USA to send in troops on the ground in Ukraine to combat The Russians?? Sirens are now sounding in Ukraine as apparently the Russian troops have moved into the Donbass region!!
Trump had his arm twisted and never wanted any sanctions against his oppressor putin. He was forced to agree

Putin had his man in the Whitehouse. And yet US congress passed sanctions 98-2 so djt had to sign it. Thus putin likely felt controlling the presidency outweighed risking pissing off the rest of the USA by moving on Ukraine. But once his boy djt was out, he likely felt Biden weak (based on Crimea whilst biden was vp plus the Afghanistan withdrawal, plus putin's disinformation network was working well in the US media) thus calculated it was time to move.

And all this "ethnic Russians being killed" was bs. Hitler did the same thing to justify moving on Poland.

And what is sad is that Putin is right: Biden is weak. Strong condemnation, sanctions against people around Putin, but no sanctions against the Putin himself, no embargo on gas and oil, no freeze of banking operations (not even SWIFT), and no troops on not yet occupied party of Ukraine. It would be very easy to put troops in and around Kiev and I am sure Russians will not go as far as killing U.S. soldiers. But what you can expect from the man who capitulated to Taliban.

McMaster breaks with Trump: Putin 'certainly not someone to be praised'
He's the Meryl Streep of former generals and NSA advisors.

Trump blushes and gushes when fantasizing aloud about Putee.

There’s a war going on and instead of asking “what is Joe gonna do” you know the Joe in charge of the biggest military on earth, you focus on Donald Trump?

Toughest sanctions??? LOL. Toothless sanctions. The only real one is against NS2 that was in place under Trump before Biden lifted them. No real sanctions were imposed.
These were the toughest sanctions. The NS2 was about the only sanctions under Trump and barely with some other real lame sanctions that did not affect Russia in the very list. Take a look at where the Russian Rouble as well as their stock market that are disasters. The Russian Citizens will be hit very hard, as will the Oligarchs, that are abroad!!

Who really cares what the most corrupt former president in history says ? I believe he called himself a genius also lol. Can you imagine if Trump had Spiro Agnew as VP? These two cons would have been unbeatable. Rudy as AG. Would have been legendary and democracy would be certainly dead in America
He was desperately trying to overthrow the Democracy in the USA, with the January 6th Insurrection. Then there are voters stations being manipulated as such to keep out as many voters of certain ethnic origins. No wonder that the likes of Putin and the rest of the Autocrats are adored by him and his cult followers. That is the real danger that Democracy is dying a slow and painful death in the USA!!

10% depreciation of RUB??? And you think it is a large drop??? You have not lived in Russia :). At best, the West will cut SWIFT (but I doubt they will do it), but it is still not affect Putin much. A personal assassination, or making some offers to people closest to Putin - this is what should be done.

Putin's tax return shows that he declared 12 rubles of income. Got a refund of 22 zillion rubles which he placed tax free in his oligarch cronies TFSAs.

NS2 is dead. Thus a $7billion capital cost pipeline to and decades of revenue flushed into the Baltic Sea.

Largest Russian Bank and many of the other large banks have been frozen out of capital markets.

Booting Russia off of SWIFT was not fully endorsed by all NATO countries. That being France and Germany as they calculated the harm it would cause their economies did not warrant the benefit it would provide in sanctioning Russia at this time. Plus just the Russian bank's freezing out of capital markets would do just as much damage to the Russian economic and financial markets as witnessed in the 33% crash of Russian equity markets.

In addition to the dozens of Putin oligarch cronies and their families, who have looted and pillaged the Russian people, that have already been sanctioned by EU countries, Canada, Japan, Australia and the USA, the BIden administration is finalizing sanctions on another 5 or 6 dozen more. This is important because as noted above Putin himself only earns 12 rubles a year and almost the entirety of his gazillion billion $ theft of the Russian people is held in TFSA of his oligarch cronies accounts.

So you see 'fall', you fail.

What is sad is that you have bought into Putin and his supporters and enablers machinations.

What the world has evidenced is that Putin is not crazy, he is SICK

So, basically, the West did nothing serious. They even failed to cut the SWIFT because it is too costly fro Germany and France. Basically, just tough talk for their own electorate and nothing that can have any significant effect on Putin: No personal sanctions against Putin, no freeze of payments for Russian export (i.e., continue to buy and pay for gas and oil), nothing. Just 3 dozen more oligarchs and major banks. Russia accumulated enough reserves to survive without borrowing and we are continue paying Russia for oil and gas. You are a fool if you believe these sanctions are "tough" - they are nothing for Putin. When finally the West will be willing t sacrifice something to get rid of this tyrant? U.S. needs another Reagan.

They have not yest disengaged access to the SWIFT because the calculation is that if they do it will push Russia toward the Chines alterative. Regrettably many issues are complicated and they require complex thought. and analysis. With the exception of the apologists for the former inhabitant most knowledgeable people are giving Joe high marks for his handling of the issue so far.

If it was just Trump and not a bunch of the GOP and their mouthpieces, no one would care other than to laugh. Praising Putin and pretending it's all Biden's fault is all we get from that faction.
