I think the Freedom Convoy may have already accomplished something…

Nothing that a cute and elegant "oops" couldn't fix.
Standards change.
20-30 years blackface was considered tasteless but not racist. SNL had a blackface skit at the same time.
The same way that Peter Seller's The Party wasn't originally seen as racist, nor Faulty Towers on BBC.

Fair..... you caught me in a moment of confirmation bias. I should have seen the video for myself and come to my own conclusion rather than than simply clicking Like on a post from someone I usually agree with. That is on me, I own that. I think probably everyone on terb (not to mention real life) is guilty of this from time to time and I am 100% guilty in this instance and probably some others too.
No worries, cheers.

I agree 100% on this. However I do find that protest supporters in this discussion violate this far more than those against.
Well, to be honest I haven’t read all the posts (there’s a lot) so I won’t make a comment on this. Just let me say I don’t think of the thread as a debate between a team of anti-mandates (or more specifically pro-convoy) supporters verses a team of pro-mandates (or against the convoy). It’s a discussion between individuals. I do see a lot of promandate posts also being not objective (here and elsewhere).

It’s also important to remember that the people against mandates probably feel more under pressure.

I have no issue with people exercising their right to demonstrate against whatever issue is important to them. I haven't been critical of the peaceful protesters (except those who dragged their kids to this). I don't condemn them for feeling vaccine mandates are wrong, even if I disagree. I think the true, peaceful supporters been used by the organizers in order to push their own agenda, but I don't fault them.
But I also don't buy into "they're doing this for all Canadians" any more than I believe sports lockouts and strikes are "for the fans".
“That peaceful protesters might be used for…”: That might be true about all protests.

“They’re doing this for all Canadians”: I agree that this is just a bullshit assertion and that it is too simple minded. But of course, that doesn’t mean that someone who feels strongly against the mandates shouldn’t support or admire the convoy. The convoy is fighting for the same cause, even if they have other interests in mind as well.

I agree and I have. Someone posted a photo of a terry fox statue holding a rainbow flag and I posted that it's inexcusable, leave the statue alone. I would say the same if my parents added the spanish flag celebrating their heritage or if the Leafs went to the cup and someone put a Leafs flag or hat on the statue. I think some statues should come down, but it should be done by the city/county whatever, I do not support anyone taking it upon themselves to damage property that is not theirs and have posted that too. Someone posed an image of a war memorial calling heathcare workers or vaccinated the real heroes (i forget exactly) and someone suggested it was actually antivaxx doing that and I called bullshit on that too. Every group has its assholes including my "side".
Good, then I respect your view (although I may not agree with removing the statues, but that’s a topic for another discussion). There was also the extremist elements of the BLM protests (countless riots in the US for example), and I imagine you are also against them (as I am).

I hope you are making your very valid points to the many pro-protest posters (say that 5 times fast "pro-protest posters") who are all over the place in their defence of the convoy.
Everyone is free to read them. :)[/QUOTE]

Oh, my memory is not as faulty as yours. A black face in the 90s was pretty racist. You just don't want to acknowledge it because of the politics. Simple.

Oh, it's not just the part of his brain responsible for memory - I assure you!

TrueDope has lived a responsibility free life since he was born, including his time as Prime Minister. He never understood there could be any consequences to his actions, whether it was groping reporters, playing a racist for sophomoric laughs, dressing up like a one man "It's a Small World" ride, putting his thumb on the scales of justice, or doling out taxpayer cash to pals who fawned over himself, the Missus and/or Mumsy.

Coming to the defence of Liberal ideals is one thing, but defending Trudeau is like soaking your credibility in napalm and lighting a match!

Whatever, maybe when the cons try to campaign on this attack this time it'll really work.
Maybe this time they'll listen to you....

Or you could just hope your freedom folks get elected so they can put the media in prison.
For freedom.

What about "Tropic Thunder"? That came out in the 2000s with Rob Downey Jr. wearing blackface. Didn't hear anyone complaining then.

They're just thinking of themselves.
These are the people under pressure.

Unlike you who is only thinking of other people. I forgot I was talking to a Jesus Christ type figure. My apologies.

Here are some questions you might want to think about next time you want to virtue signal and scapegoat: How many new hospitals have there been built in Canada or Ontario over the last 2 years? How much have the ICU capacities grown? Why are not other developed countries running out of hospital beds as quickly as Canada does, given that our vaccination numbers are not much behind (if it is not one of the best)?

Not only that mandates affect different people very disproportionately, we’re all going to pay for them for years to come. As for the vaccine mandates and the demonization of the small percentage of Canadians who aren’t vaccinated, that’s just scapegoating.

I have a feeling that you might be supportive of the modern liberal’s “equity” agenda. You might find this interesting; it might also correct your view of a typical unvaccinated person:

I agree we should get more money into healthcare, more hospitals and nurses.

Mandates?
We've had them for years in schools and elsewhere.

But this protest was organized by the yellow vests/Maverick party.
It wasn't about the safety of the vaccines, it wasn't truckers.
Its an alt right anger fest.

Only the person who raised all the money has now disappeared.

Good job avoiding all the questions that I asked. I’m sure if you dig deep, you won’t find anything offensive ever said by any left-wing protest organizer! Those riots, destroyed statues etc never happened.

You can hold individuals responsible, but don’t call so many people who are just tired of what has been in many Canadians’ view government overreach racist.

I assume that the contents of those articles you listed are true. The bias is not necessarily in the articles themselves, but in the fact that those media don’t seem to do as much of a rigorous background check of major figures in left-wing protests and write an article about every questionable person they find among them. It’s about the double standards.

Anyways, I’m not interested in arguing back and forth, as it will be a waste of both of our times. So I’m signing off from this thread. No disrespect to you or others I disagreed with today. I just don’t feel
there’s any point in arguing, especially when none of us are individually making big decisions for the country (well, I know I’m not). Cheers.
WhatI posted did refute all your arguments about the nature of these demonstrators. We even know today that there was one of their individuals who was arrested at Parliament Hill as he possessed a weapon. The people of Ottawa have had enough to this disruption in their lives. Time for these demonstrators to get lost as they got their message across and the majority of Canadians are against. Good that the Government does not budge and holds on to these mandates. But nice distraction from You with regards to throwing the ANTIFA or other Left Wing demonstrators. They have not blocked the traffic for essential goods and other trade for days on end. Goodbye!!

There is a petition started this morning to give OPS a message to end this ASAP and is up to almost 7500 signatures with little publicity.
https://www.change.org/p/ottawa-pol...-police-must-evict-freedom-convoy?signed=true
FYI this petition to evict the "FREEDOM CONVOY" was started less than 24 hours ago and now has just under 15,000 signatures, by contrast a petition started when the convoy left BC last week, calling for the immediate resignation of the Prime minister, has not even got to 1,500 yet.

This is the wording in the petition.
"We are calling for Justin Trudeau's immediate resignation & he should apologize to all Canadians for his atrocities against his own people. His actions in office border on tyranny.

A Canadian Prime Minister can be removed (not impeached) by a no-confidence vote in the House.

A vote of no confidence can be triggered at any time in the House of Commons, such as when a bill is defeated. If the Prime Minister does not have the support of a majority of Members of Parliament, they must resign or dissolve parliament altogether and ask for a new election
.
TRUDEAU MUST GO"

By constantly concentrating on one thing you are making general and sweeping statements regarding the thousands who attended and supported the rally. You said:" If the truckers had zero bias they would have curtailed such individuals (racists with flags- all 5 of them- I presume)" . Yet, that's EXACTLY what the crowd did and ejected them- we even.have the video of that actually happening, and it was even posted, here. It was also posted all over the social media. But, the Prime Minister decided to double down and most of the MSM were only too happy to follow. It is now a double edged sword that's cutting both ways and our PM has become a caricature because every time this is mentioned, it is accompanied by the pics of our Dear Leader prancing around in black face. It took Justin years to push that into dark corner only to have it roar back and with vengeance AND around the world. LOL!! A school buddy of mine sent me a text from Munich(!) commenting on our "colorful " Prime Minister. We are a laughing stock around the fucking world.
You keep on following some alt right bullshit and spewing it out here. There were several cases of swastika flags and nazi insignia with this trucker protest. Not Surprising considering that some of the organizers have links to far right groups as was evident in the articles that I posted. They have made racist statements against the Muslims, Jews and other minorities. There have been arrests due to some of these individuals who have had weapons as well. The citizens and businesses in Ottawa have had enough of these protests as it is affecting their daily lives and businesses. Now You right wingers seem okay with businesses having to shut down and the people cannot go about their daily lives. We know that these protests have taken it to the border at Alberta resulting in total disruption to their trade and essential transport. Even the Conservative Premiers of both Alberta and Ontario are condemning their procrastination and their defacing of the statues, graves etc, as well as having to shut down the businesses as they cannot even conform to the basic mask mandates!! Again You guys seem okay with it, although they are breaking the laws there in the manner of their blockades etc. But as usual jcpro goes on and on about the "Blackface" nonsense that Canadians do not give a shit any longer. But you are still fixated about an occurrence from two to there decades ago at some private events. Was it that disruptive to the Canadian Economy then as compared to what these truckers are currently doing??

In The Capital

In late January, MacKenzie travelled from Nova Scotia to Ottawa for the “Freedom Convoy,” participating in the event at Parliament Hill on Sunday afternoon and again on Monday. While there, he spent time with members of Canada First, led by white nationalist Tyler Russell. Canada First is a racist, antisemitic network of Groypers – followers of American white nationalist Nick Fuentes.

Before the main rally on Saturday, news outlets made note of the statement made during a Plaid Army live stream by Derek “Rants” Harrison saying he hoped to see an event in Ottawa similar to the events at the US Capitol building on January 6. The resulting attention led Harrison and others to take a much more subdued approach to their attendance, with Jeremy MacKenzie and Derek Harrison holed up in their hotel rooms on Saturday.
Citing an inevitable false flag plot to foil convoy supporters, and showing his followers two police cruisers parked outside his hotel in a video upload, MacKenzie and Harrison instead chose to stream throughout the day, saying earlier that it would be proof they were not present on the Hill.
People’s Party of Canada leader Maxime Bernier paid a visit to MacKenzie and Harrison at their hotel while they were in Ottawa. Bernier has repeatedly refused to distance himself from the Plaid Army and has boosted MacKenzie’s posts in the past.
MacKenzie also appeared on the conspiracy-fueled InfoWars hosted by Alex Jones while in Ottawa to discuss the protest.

In response to criticism, MacKenzie vehemently denies accusations of racism and antisemitism levelled against him and the digital community he presides over, regularly pointing to racialized members within it.
This despite pushing well-worn conspiracy theories about outsized Jewish control over global affairs and governance, his assertion that there is already a “race war” taking place within the United States, and mentions of the “slow genocide” against white European people within the west.
“Fantastic, but be peaceful as you’re being massacred, as the slow-motion genocide continues,” he said during a July 2021 stream.
“Accelerate, accelerate, there’s no way out. This is going to come to total shit, so let’s just get it over with. If you’re going to be in a fight, hit first, Vladimir Putin said that.”
Other streams from MacKenzie include overt threats against political and public figures, including health officials.
More recent streams include calling the US-based white nationalist group Patriot Front “basically our American counterpart.” Mackenzie has also repeatedly alluded to committing violence against journalists, told his followers not to speak with them, and blamed the media for the divisions he sees in society.

Whiners.
I assume they will stay there whining until the little old ladies of Ottawa chase them and their trucks out.

Someone found a newspaper clipping that's 136 years old with whiners complaining about a vaccine mandate for the smallpox vaccine.
Which would you rather have, smallpox or that vaccine?
