That's the way I see it. I have yet to hear anyone say there's a procedure whereby actors must check a gun once it's handed to them. I mean, it doesn't even makes sense that they would put the responsibility on the actor. Would they just assume every actor has taken a firearm safety course?
Not the actor's job. The actor's job is to know his marks and his lines and to act the scene. Fucking around with a gun is going to break his concentration. Hence a specialist person on the crew.

Baldwin wasn't just an actor on the set. To my understanding he was also the producer of the film.

So?

Does that mean he does everybody's job?..... Does he clean the toilets as well?

A producer is the person responsible for finding and launching a project; arranging financing financing; hiring writers, a director, and key members of the creative team; and overseeing all elements of pre-production, production and post-production, right up to release.

That's why they hire a weapons expert. Are you saying he's also the one in charge of making sure every gun is safe before every shot? What about stunts, is he supposed to check the brakes on cars before they do a chase scene? I'd imagine they would also have insurance.

I hope from now on the Feds pass a new law, the armorer must check to see if the gun is loaded with real bullets, and the actor shooting the gun also must check the gun. If they fail to do that they should both be charged with homicide.

Better yet, with current CGI just dont use real guns anymore. Its just not necessary

Perhaps he did not follow due diligence and hired the wrong person in charge of gun safety
Again, you put people in charge of making hires. It's not reasonable to expects a producer to personally interview and hire every person who works on a film set.

Given the lawsuits that are likely coming, he might just have to start doing that
Insurance will cover those. Unless he under-insured, which - given what a 2-bit, rinky-ass operation the movie was - might well have happened.

He may never work again as an actor because of the Bad Feelz though.

Only up to $10 mill last time I checked. Everything above that I think willl be on him
If she was an up and coming director, she could probably pull 1/2 to 1 mill $$$ per year. He might be fuck-a-rooed!

Phil, that's already the armourer's job. And he / she can probably be charged w Involuntary Homicide / Criminal Negligence if he / she doesn't do the check.

IMO, it's simply NOT the actor's job. The armourer is supposed to do the check.

Criminal law / negligence law is state jurisdiction under the US Constitution, Phil.
