Can’t believe Cohen got into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ahead of Rush or the Guess Who.
It shows that you were not aware of how highly he and his poetry were respected especially in the industry and his peers. His songs were covered hundreds of times, and possibly by bands/artists that you like.

I know he’s highly rated, in my opinion he’s overrated.
I’m adding Oasis and Pearl Jam to my list.

To which I was remiss in not acknowledging that you are totally entitled. It is a personal taste.

Apologies.

Drool Drool Drool My Payola
Is my cock big enough, is my brain small enough
for you to make me a star.

Wealthy men hired me.
To sing this song they wrote for me
They investing in this pricey music video
And they're paying to get it played on the radio (on the radio)
And they're gonna sell a million (a million)
Yes, it's gonna go platinum
[Chorus]
Cause they market this song to young, impressionable, and insecure teenage girls
Cause all you gotta say is "ooh baby, I love you" and "girl, I need you in my world"
Yes, they market this song to young, impressionable, and insecure teenage girls
Cause all they gotta do is find a sexually attractive man that can sing all the words

This thread is very frustrating to read. It’s like saying “I’m not really into blues, therefore BB King and Buddy Guy suck”.
Utter nonsense.

Randy Bachman and Neil Young had a conversation a few years back. Neil said something to the effect of, that he hated when artists put the same material out over and over and over again, and called it a new album. And when I looked at Neil’s discography a little while back… he never tried to remake Harvest. He did a blues album. A 60’s rockabilly style album… he always experimented and moved forward. Not all of it was great, but he didn’t get stuck in a formula.

that’s also what I appreciated about Rush. 2112, Moving Pictures, Grace Under Pressure… all different vibes. Some people like early Rush, and stopped listening when the synths came in. I love it all.

When someone says a band (say Pink Floyd) was only good up to say ‘75… I say, I’m glad they didn’t try to keep sounding the same. Dark Side, Animals, and the Wall all sound completely different. The Wall incorporates funk and disco elements as only Gilmore could do.

the Eagles made different albums each time too. One was a Southern rock style…. One adopted the “Philadelphia chord sound”… every one had a central theme. That’s great musicianship.

Bruce Springsteen had a massive hit with Born to Run… and the market (and record label) were ripe for a more pop sounding album from him…. He follows it up with the bare bones acoustic album Nebraska he recorded in his living room. Epic!

Clapton’s nickname was “God”. Look it up.

I don’t really listen to Madonna, but I respect what she accomplished.

there are sooooo many great musicians that just are not commercial… and you will never hear of them. So to hit the level of success that some of these bands hit is a miracle. And nobody remains 27 forever. To peak once is massive. To follow it up 2 or 3 times is legendary.

Let me start with a bang...

Pink Floyd...The Eagles...
Pink Floyd ?? It pains me to see this, honestly...
Did the OP take the time to read the history, listen to the music, and read the lyrics?

Who is overrated? U2: Bono, himself, admitted, in a recent podcast, that he hates U2 music, hates his own voice ...

Strongly disagree with Pink Floyd. Yes, they did some weird shit early in their career, but everyone was. Shine On You Crazy Diamond has been cited by several very respected musical academics as being as close to musically perfect as it is possible to come.
Wish you were here, Shine On You Crazy Diamond, Animals ...my favorites...
