"Solicitor General Sylvia Jones said she will look at the bills, but noted that the behaviours addressed in what the Liberals and NDP propose are already against the law."
So yeah loads of people are bringing in new laws but why. It's already against the law.
It's kinda like the whole, sure we had breakfast but what about second breakfast thing.
Maybe... just maybe Ford is right in this case <gasp> in which case the question is actually, why are the cops not being sent in to smash some tard skulls.
The second question is if they are not going to enforce the current laws, why would you expect them to enforce the new laws.
It's like bringing in a law banning prison rape. Well laddy dah, sure a mans butt shouldn't be violated in prison, but it's already illegal.
It increases penalties for existing laws that some provinces are unwilling to enforce, let alone enhance when it comes to hospital protests.
How this will protect health care workers or patients from all the crazies threatening and harassing them in person, in writing, or electronically, I dunno. It didn’t seem to come with a bunch more funding for local police to investigate and stop that stuff, but I’m out of my league here.
I would hope mandatory criminal charges will have some affect on people considering breaking the law, but I doubt they’d understand even if it was explained to them using sock puppets.
And again, it’s up to the province to enforce them.
Does this live up to the election promises of the Liberals or NDP? Not in my opinion. Feels like a mostly empty gesture.
But, it was an empty promise knowing protective zones would be a provincial or regional / municipal decision.
