So I'd like to get some opinions on this topic with the upcoming mayoral elections in 2022 in mind.

Please answer the following, do you approve of these speed cameras??
  1. Yes I approve, and dont want them removed or have their locations reduced.
  2. I approve, but I want the set fine raised from its current 10 km/h over to 15 km/h over the speed limit.
  3. I hate them and want them all gone!

15km/h over has always been the benchmark for when a cop issues you a ticket. Same as in the States when they ding you if you are 10m/h over.

Not for these speed cameras. Fines start at 11 km/h over the speed limit

I prefer to drive above the posted limit. Typically 10-20 over where it's safe to do so. Never in school or residential areas though. I also reduce my speed going through intersections as that's where a large percentage of collisions occur. So I don't have a huge problem with them, just like red light cameras. For the most part they're in residential and school zones. Not that there's kids paying in the streets 24/7. I'm just glad they haven't put them on highways where the 100 km/h limit is definitely too low. My mother once got a photo radar ticket on the 401 for 106 in a 100 km/h zone before Harris canned them.

Besides, I use the Waze app and they flag all the speed and red light cameras. Based on the number of tickets they issue, it really gives you an idea of just how stupid/unaware people are.

It’s funny how upset people get when you drive at the speed limit. I had one kid try to pass me in the oncoming lane. In a residential area.

I know a few spots cops like to hide in my area and try to warn others but they always seem to get some drivers at these spots.

Waze is user updated, so when you spot a speed trap, report it, and it will be updated.

I know. But cops issuing tickets has been around a lot longer than speed cameras. So it seems inconsistent that they've allowed 15 kph buffer for cops that people have gotten used to, but now the new cameras are only 10 kph.

I'm usually more interested on focussing on my driving than navigating the site.

I do confirm when they ask if construction or a car on the shoulder etc. is still there. The button shows up right there and it takes just a half a second.

I don’t think they expect people to report speed traps while driving, but you never know.

If they do it later, it would be hard for the driver to pinpoint the location. If they do it as they are driving by I assume that it would be more accurate since they can pick up your location.

But I don't know how it works. I just know that it is a great app.

Thats why I think its a money grab.

Also for now most are in school zones, but its a good bet it'll spread to other streets as well (if it hasnt already)

Absolutely support them in school zones. And I won't complain if other people's fines help keep my property taxes down.

I'd also like to see the repercussions for more than 10kph over be based on a percentage of the posted speed. That means 70 in a 40 zone gets treated more harshly than 130 on the hwy.

61 km/h is a ticket lol. That’s a shameful cash grab.

Schools also end at 3pm, that’s a slick move with the cameras. Is it only school zones? Where else? That’s fucked if those cameras spread all over Toronto.

I hop on the highway for everything possible even with traffic its better in most cases. City driving is already shitty especially in Toronto for many reasons and has been getting worse over time.

If things change so much I WOULD appreciate never bumping into morons that thinks it’s a race out there. I usually just turn my head the opposite direction or just completely ignore and do my thing.

When your on the road just don’t hit anything. Period. If you can’t manage your going too fast.

Speed cameras should be on EVERY street within the city of Toronto. If you are a licensed driver then it's a no brainer that you DON"T SPEED. Period.

They should enact a law that once you get 3 speeding tickets within a calendar year your license is suspended for 1 year and in order to get it back you need to re-take your G1, G2, G, etc.

If they did that virtually everyone would stop speeding and the City would stop making money off speeding tickets
