Where does that leave the Leafs, who lost to the Habs in the 1st round while the Habs went all the way to the Cup finals?
Top line might be out - but we got depth - lets see, new year, new hope, new future. Look what the Bosox are doing, play the season and finish to qualify and then turn it up - Go Leafs Go!.
I liked Brook's story. I was pulling for him, overage draft pick with plenty of skill.....just not NHL calibre speed. Maybe he can get a roster spot in Montreal and prove the Leafs wrong. If he's playing tonight....hat trick?
Marner isn't officially out. They took him out of practice as a precaution, and will revisit his status this morning.
That being said, they still have some pop in those guns. Nylander and Tavares are studs, and maybe some of the new faces can contribute.
Or do what Montreal does. Finish out of the top 16 last 2 seasons. Get lucky to get into the playoffs then turn it up.
Or he could very well end up back on the Leafs and play for the Marlies and be their depth forward some time during the season. He looked good on the 4th line last year. It probably came down to Brooks and Engvall and Engvall can provide PK, is fast and much bigger. Engvall for sure would get claimed.

Yeah, if Engvall can ever figure out how to use his body, he could be an awesome NHLer. He's 6'5, 215 pounds and fairly quick. Could be a great front of net presence, or could pound d-men in the corner to cause turnovers...
One thing Brooks has over Engvall is he is a smarter hockey player but Engvall's size and speed compensates.
Engvall iced the puck with 12 sec left. Had the Habs tied it, Engvall benched next game. Brooks would have made a smarter play.
But if Brooks had not scored the goal that Engvall scored, he would not have had an opportunity to make that smarter play.
Just talking "what ifs".
True, Engvall got the first goal for the Leafs, had a decent game.
