I am not white and think this is the stupidest thing i have ever read.

The characterization of a human being based on their genetic makeup is racist by definition.
Are you agreeing with my point or not?

There is definitely racism tied to white privilege, but not to the white person. It's to all the visible minorities, those that get passed over because of their name or the way they look. Maybe that part is called soft racism. Sure, some POC thrive and are incredibly successful, but they overcame a number of barriers that most of us aren't even aware exist. And looking at these responses to this thread, that is obvious.

Read the thread again and take a look at who is attacking/being defensive, and who isn't, and ask yourself why.
You wouldn’t believe me when I told you that my wife excelled and didn’t have any special racist obstacles in school other then the regular shit kids go through and is successful and does not feel like she is underprivileged. She gets what she wants. When we met we had similar amount of savings. She buys what she wants, does what she wants. But this wasn’t good enough for you. You assume there must be something wrong, I must be deficient, or don’t see it or she doesn’t feel comfortable taking to me that this can’t be true. This is where it derailed when you made the assumptions based on your bias into this then projected it on me. You are the one who broke the trust here because you automatically assumed that it is my deficiency and somehow I am not understanding of her and the struggles she needed to face in this racist country of Canada.

I feel what people are doing instead of empowering PofC they are trying to victimize them and make them believe they are underprivileged and have this anti white mentality. These SJW have this hero complexity issue that they need to save them and empower them and think this is helping when it’s doing the opposite . But this does the opposite.

Many PodC could care less about this nonsense. They know what to do, how to succeed in life, how to educate their kids and become successful and not rely on anyone or ask their permissions. They have their own business and own life and are their own bosses. If they come across assholes who are racist they steam roll through them like they are nothing and know how to hurt them if they try to fuck with them.

this is the type of empowerment we should be after. If anyone tries this racist shit they know how hurt them where they will truly feel it and people know not to fuck with them. We will always have racist assholes. You can’t paint the whole group by the actions of the few.

I know her friend has some issues in school with their kids until they moved to a more multicultural school and we did talk about that actively. She never once expressed like there was anything she has ever gone though or had gone through. She did tell me once when she went back to her country and her as a teenager some dude grabbing her ass and thinking this is normal. So we do tak about many things. But for some reason this was not good enough for you.

You aren't LISTENING. You probably don't listen to your PoC friends, if you have any, either.
OMG what a burnnnnnn!
1632267262468.gif

You like to make a lot of assumptions when it doesn’t fit your expectations.

Also why assume that you have the answers to solve these issues and speak for the many that should be listened to like some authority.

It’s also funny that you say not listening when it is you that is not listening to PofC who don’t have systematic racism barriers in Canada. Are we projecting again? Example I told you my wife who is PofC didn’t have these systematic racism and barriers growing up but you didn’t like that. It seems like you only listen to the ones who tell you what you want to hear or what you expect and the ones who present a story outside this reality are just ignored or there must be something wrong. Obviously here I am wrong because I just didn’t coerce my wife enough into extracting the challenges and hardships she had growing up in such a racist society as Canada.

How about them apples?

This is what I find so fascinating with him.
I kind of think it is a weird form of self awareness.
He knows he is angry, defensive, thin-skinned, and trapped in his paradigm. He is absolutely locked into it and the whole "my ego won't let me see beyond myself" and he sort of knows that.
So he embraces this philosophy about transcending all those things because he really wants to be a better person.
So he's trying, but because he can't help himself, he has just perverted this philosophy into a reason to claim he is better than everyone else and everyone else is wrong and trapped in Plato's cave and only he has progressed far enough up the spiral to understand how everyone else has failed to integrate.

Whoa, slow down there cowboy, I NEVER said she or any other PoC could not succeed. Don't twist my words like that. I said there was NO WAY she never faced systemic racism or blatant racism, there is NO WAY she has never heard a slur, or a racist comment. I'd bet my life on it.

And I'd bet my life on the fact that your kids will likely experience that too at some point, largely because of people like you who refuse to accept that this is a reality, and prepare them for it.

Thats what you are doing with the twisting of the words.

You will never fix assholes. There will always be assholes that do asshole things and say racist shit. what are you going to do label Canada a racist country because of few examples and say all PofC have some sort of systematic racism barriers.

We are taking about systematic racism that would have prevented her from getting her education or reaching her potential or getting a job and being in control at her job to put people in place who try the racist shit. Hate to disappoint you but she hasn’t faced these issues.

I acknowledge systematicracism exists in pockets however not all PofC are effected to the point it makes them sad or prevents them from achieving their potential.

White privilege is definitely a thing. It is subtle, and white people usually don't even realize it is happening. It does not mean you are going to be rich or avoid mental illness. It does not mean you can't wind up homeless, divorced, diseased or avoid jail.

[...]

The bottom line is this: white people get all sorts of cultural benefits that POC do not. We are usually not aware of it, we don't ask for it, but I can promise you that if it stopped tomorrow, there would be an outcry.

privilege
a special right, advantage, or immunity granted or available only to a particular person or group.

Being the white son of Mr. ostracize and Mrs. smart as a bag of hammers I never felt the positivity of being white. I was getting beat up by a cousin, stupid cunt mom said, "No one likes a tattle tale!"

When you got hit in the head, did you ever hear the ding? I heard it lots of times with ZERO RECOURSE.

I don't give 2 fucks about your problems.

I'd bang him in a heartbeat, hell, I'd bang you too. You are both incredibly vast people emotionally, and intellectually, and that is wildly sexy to me. This has been the only topic I think you and I have not seen eye to eye on, and I don't take it personally. 🤷‍♀️

No one is ever in another's shoes, Jasmina. Be that a matter of race, gender, occupation, wealth, sexual orientation, upbringing, place of birth, attractiveness, genetics, or environment. You've chosen to divide who's allowed to have an opinion by race. What about all the other factors?

Yes, absolutely, listen to their stories. We should always listen. But after that, we decide. Each individual must decide.

I had a very good philosophy teacher in high school, grades 11 and 12. This guy had traveled the world and interacted with many different cultures, and his lesson to us, what I think was the most important lesson I learnt in high school, was the ability to think critically for ourselves. To assess every situation, and see its veils and truncations. To understand the motivations and biases and human nature of those involved. To see the various narratives, each with a modicum of truth, but none an encompassing portrayal of reality. Then to identify and weave those truthful threads together until you can see the actual picture. And the picture right now is showing division and resentment and anger, that'll get worse in the coming years, and the people making it worse do it under a guise of righteousness.

That's not a bad thing, the best outcome is that our views and opinions on the matter challenge each other to the point where we end up in a better position than from where we started.

This has been a good thread. I am amazed at how in-depth, well thought out, and passionate the opinions on both sides ( and the middle ) of the issue have been.

I also think many of the exchanges lack compassion and empathy where I thought there would be more of that, there are a lot of angry people invested in this issue left and right and they preemptively have made an agreement with themselves not to be budged on this issue no matter how compelling an opposing opinion may be, they seem to be the angriest.

At the very least people are discussing the issue and I have learned a few things along the way from both sides, for me? that's a good outcome.

You and people like you are trying to drive a wedge through all the progress we have made over the last 50 years. All you want to do is divide. It’s not a healthy way to build a society. Whether white privilege is true or not. It’s not a healthy narrative to continue to drive. It’s only causes suspicion, disstrust and ultimately a divided society that will not survive.

I stick with what I said. Your post objectively stupid.

People who use words like "visible minorities" "privilege" "people of color" " are usually the racists themselves.

So went back to the original post and for the question as framed my answers are no and no.
That's actually the point of understanding systemic racism - it isn't a personal moral flaw.
What's great about a short answer like yours is it limits the number of tangents a responder can go down, this thread went on some pretty wild rants.
