Much of the blame should go to their manager who put them in that unfamiliar spot as if they were seasoned vets ... don’t really like to play Monday morning quarterback but his moves before the spot kicks didn’t make sense (bad percentages)....Maybe it’s a bit cruel to say this but in the end because of Southgate’s tactics I think they got what they deserved... to cautious in their approach ... when you got momentum with an early lead and your playing in front of your crowd one must use that to their advantage and keep pressing and play to win ... something going on in that head of his we don’t know about ..... still they almost pulled it off with the heroics of Jordan Pickford , a great performance and showing from him that went to waste unfortunately
Beside the first 10 minutes England was flat. All their forwards were like Immobile... Transparent.
Italy dominated that game on all front. They were taking some chances. Especially Chiesa and Insigne.
England played a good Euro, especially defensively. But Italy was the best team. I would have really hope if they could have close that game before the shoot out.

Pickford played out of his skin, atoning for the van Dyke debacle. England made the Final, something the Cream Puffs haven't done in 54 years...no comparison.

Well. It depends on who you bring in, then you can say it's either stupid or brilliant. Southgate is not getting England over that hump, the man got that job by default and not because he was a great or even good coach at best. With the amount of talent Englan's got right now, the FA needs to be ambitious and bring in some high profile and proven manager. Not Big Sam, Bruce or Uncle Arry.
I blame his negative tactics, the subs just proved he was clueless, just like he was back in 2018 against Croatia.
Maybe you have a point, I was shocked to find out that Jack Grealish is two years older than Nicolo Barella. The dude has Baggio level footwork, what's he doing as a substitute...can he shoot like Baggio? At the party I was at, he was the English player the attendees feared the most. If not Southgate, then who, Lo Speciale is coaching Roma.
It appears the Staffordshire lad isn't very happy.

I don't get how penalty duties for a finals falls on younger players and the fifth PK on one of the youngest member of the squad. Henderson takes PKs regularly for Liverpool and Grealish could have taken as well. Apparently Southgate was the one who picked the players for penalty duties. As for the comparisons to Baggio, NO! He is good but he ain't no Baggio. Baggio might have missed that crucial spot kick in 94, but Italy would be nowhere close to the finals if it was not for him.
Pirlo and Beckham came after him, people forget how good Baggio was with the dead ball. Baggio probably watched the Euro and said, "Porca Troia why didn't I hae these midfielders". The Azzurri had mediocre midfielders in 94 and 98, every goals scored by Vieri in 98 was assisted by Baggio. He scored 27 goals for the Azzurri with 56 caps, Del Pierro scored 27 goals with 91 caps.
There's a film coming out made by Netflix Italia on his life, it's a drama not a documentary.
Apparently Gianluca Vialli has been given a clean bill of health?! I don't know of anyone that's survived pancriatic cancer. Vialli was the last Juve Captain to lift the Champions Cup.

Italy took over the second half at the get but I could feel it shifting almost 10 min. before the half.
England showed no gumption to go in for the kill, you can smell that weakness and Italy responded by attacking hard.
He was such a stud man.
I loved his physicality, he could take over a game.
He's totally pimping in that outfit, I didn't think he would be that eloquent.
He is one of my all time favourite players and I think it's sad that people only remember him for that penalty miss in 94, he was much more than that as a player.
Sure Italy took over the second half. But it wasn't so much gumption it was that Southgate changed their formation for the second half, with a back 5. Presumably thinking they'd be able to win by packing their defence to defend their lead, rather than go for a second. Made Italy look better than they were.
The one thing I can say with total certainty:

My team didn't make the final so the only emotional investment I had watching the final, was watching the (neutered) Three Lions lose.
