Four members of an Ontario family were killed in a hit and run in Canada. Police suspect the attacker targeted them because of their Muslim faith.

A man struck and killed four pedestrians with his vehicle in a suspected hate crime, police in the Canadian city of London, Ontario, announced Monday.

"We believe this was an intentional act and that the victims of this horrific incident were targeted," Police Chief Steve Williams said. "We believe the victims were targeted because of their Islamic faith."

"We understand that this event may cause fear and anxiety in the community, particuarly in the Muslim community, in any community targeted by hate," he added.

London Mayor Ed Holder released a statement Monday following the collision late Sunday, saying: "Let me be clear: This was an act of mass murder, perpetrated against Muslims ... rooted in unspeakable hatred. This act of unspeakable hatred, the act of Islamaphobia, must be followed by acts of compassion."

Witnesses told the Global News network they saw the vehicle come over the median strip and added it looked like it had come from the other side of the road.

The 20-year-old alleged attacker struck five people in the hit and run car attack, police said.

Among those killed were a 74-year-old woman, a 46-year-old man, a 44-year-old woman and a 15-year-old girl, police said. A 9-year-old boy was in a serious condition, but is expected to survive. The family requested the victims names not be relesed.

The driver was arrested in the car park of a nearby mall and faces four counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted murder.

Now the 9 year old who survived is expected to suffer this whole trauma for the rest of his Life. Wonder whether he now has any family members to take care of him. Very sad indeed that happened on our Canadian Soil!!

How do people grow up with so much hate that they would do this? I spent about about 8 years in London and it it's pretty white but didn't see any of this. I really feel for the kid.

This is a case that, within a day of the deaths, the police determined that the motivation for the attack was racism. The only way the police could come to that conclusion so quickly (because police are just not that good or efficient) is if the accused volunteered a clear statement confirming his intentions. If that is the case, why did the police refuse to release any details of any statement made by the accused, or even describe in general terms why they came to their conclusion, and what is the purpose of the rest of their ongoing investigation?

Also, it has been reported that the accused was wearing some sort of bullet proof vest when he was arrested. Why? Was he also armed when he was arrested? No report of it. If he was armed, why run down his victim (risking a crash) instead of using a weapon? There was no report of any resistance or stand off at his arrest. Sociopaths who plan to make some sort of "stand" generally do exactly that. They seek the attention, especially if they are trying to make some ideological point. This guy, apparently, just saw his victims on the sidewalk, made the instantaneous decision to run them down, and then fled the scene, only to be arrested without incident in some store parking lot a couple of blocks away. In summary, he didn't flee very far or try to hide himself effectively, and he didn't set up some kind of stand off with the police. None of this makes any sense to me.

You are a fascinating contradiction. A liberal who has no questions about policing and no real curiosity about the kind of events you would otherwise claim are the scourge of our society. Makes me think you really don't care as much as you claim about the issues discussed here. Maybe you're a fake liberal?

This is a horrible act and should be dealt with...the guy probably hate Muslims if all evidence points that way. Yes racism still exists, you can call this terrorism...I call this 4 counts of murder...This is a flashback of Alex Menassian...the London (England) van attacks...this shouldn't be a leftist vs rightist argument...this shit happens to everybody and could happen to anybody....there's plenty of hate to go around...world is fucked up...

James Fields defence team version II.
Fresh of his astounding 0/61 record in the election litigation thread, 0/3 defending other racial hate crimes.
Maybe this time Lucy won't pull the ball out of the way.

It's been a while since Bud Plug had to defend a racist killer.
