It wouldn't surprise me if Scotty Bowman said to Bob Gainey: "You can't score, at best you're a 3rd line player so if you want to stay in this league you need to follow Rick Mddleton/Reg Leach/etc around and stop them from scoring."

Gainey at 201...that would put him in the bottom half from his Stanley Cup Montreal teammates...
Habs all over the Jets in this one through 3 periods. It's only close on the score board.

If Montreal is able to beat either Colorado or Vegas next round by knocking out a star player in the first game somehow they could potentially meet NYI who also was 4th in their Division.
You could argue that Tavares made the difference in round 1, but I don’t think Scheifele makes such a massive difference to swing this.
Heck Price just had to be good in this series. Habs for the most part played better than the jets or ad well in each game.
That's a fair assessment but it was the Jets best offensive player. So it wasn't just some nobody.

I'm not sure if Tavares would have made enough of a difference, Montreal has captured lightening in a bottle.
We get stuck on defining a team by the "star" players they have, rather than how they're actually playing.
Leafs were outplayed and outcoached.
Montreal deserves this, they've got some really talented young players on the way up.
Except they actually have won some playoff series.

The math is a little off - but only with respect to the number of days. The Hab's won Game 7 on May 31st against the Leafs and swept the Jets on June 7th - so a little more than 5 days.
For those who may think I am "gloating" or "rubbing it in" I don't really care. You are likely the ones who have dumped all over the Hab's for years and pumped up the tires of the Leafs only to see a complete reversal of fortunes in this year's playoffs.
Who knows what will happen in the next series, or next season, but the hockey gods are surely smiling down on the Hab's in these playoffs.

Colorado or Vegas in the next round. MTL is going to find itself in the deep end of the pool in round three for sure. Can Carey Price be the life jacket that floats them safely to the final? It's a pretty tall order, even for the second best Habs goalie ever.
Not a fan of him, personally I would be excited to see him become the first coach to be fired right after winning the Stanley Cup
