Good for you (to the OP). Congrats.

Looking at your holdings, the portfolio lacks diversification. Plus the USD taking a hit vs CAD. Losing on the FX side.

Too many bank stocks. Correlated. My preference (I hold): BMO.

The recovery means a commodity boom and the king of commodities is not oil it's copper.
Got into Canadian copper producers back in December after US elections and the vaccine out. Up over 50% to date.
Large (by Canadian standards...) names LUN, FM, HBM
Small CMMC, CS
and no USD FX exposure.

Copper is the new gold. At this point it is still near the
beginning of a bull market of commodities.

Started playing the penny stocks back in December. Sold some at profit. Reinvested in others.
Started with 25k. Was up well over 500k at one point. Currently at about 350k.
I've already taken out 5 times my original investment. Going to let these 3 ride.

Just thought I'd give an update on this.
TSNP (now HUMBL) has dropped about 50%
GVSI has gone up about 2000%
NIHK hasn't changed much
So, overall I'm up about 1600%

I have added several other penny stocks with profits from selling off small blocks of HUMBL and GVSI

I wouldn't recommend this as an investment strategy. It's extremely volatile and can be stressful or fun/exciting, depending on your risk tolerance.
Most of my retirement funds are in a balance of blue chip, growth and income funds.

Nice but as you know they're not realized gains until you actually sell. Just saying its best to hold off the celebrations till then.

TFSA's are the best no tax at all while RRSP's are often the worst because the gains are taxed at your income tax rate. But of course the benefit is that this doesn't happen until the year you withdraw the funds from your RRSP as opposed to gains made in your cash account which have to be declared the same year they occur.

Tax on $23,000 capital gain, rounded to the nearest 100.

If income is 0
$0 TSFA
$0 Cash account (non rounded; $36)
$3,200 RRSP

If income is $50,000
$0 TSFA
$3,400 Cash account
$7,400 RRSP

If income is $100,000
$0 TSFA
$5,000 Cash account
$10,000 RRSP

Income is $200,000
$0 TSFA
$5,800 Cash account
$11,600 RRSP
So, to be clear, if I were to plan to have no employment income in 2021, I could sell 400k of non registered stock investments and pay zero tax?

No, those amounts were strictly based on a capital gain of $23,000. Larger capital gains will result in comparably larger taxation levels.

A capital gain of $400,000 in a non resigistered account would result in a tax bill just over $70,000. This tool can help you do the math yourself; https://www.wealthsimple.com/en-ca/tool/tax-calculator/

And yet you can't argue with my success, can you?? I sold a little over half my stocks last week and my first cheque came in the mail today.
I still have $30K left in stocks (mostly oil and energy).

I started with around $50K and I'm now around $80K. All going straight into my TFSA.
Gonna leave the oil stocks till next year and hopefully they'll be up 30% or so

Hey Phil C. ( U-man ),

What is it with you showing statements that you alledge are yours? Are you so insecure that you need to show statements on the internet and maybe walk around on the beach with a tiny fluorescent green speedo on? Stocks were so depressed after March 4 last year that anyone buying stocks would have doubled or tripled their money. The real test of a true investor will come in the next 12 months, not the last.
If those are really your statements you have exhibited, then you have short thumbs. Do you suffer from Brachydactyly type-D? ( stubby thumb disease )

Not true. At the end of the day you still have to guess when the market has bottomed out, which isnt always easy.

In addition I sold Delta airlines for a $2K profit when everyone else (including Buffett) thought it was too risky buy.
I also sold TBLT for a profit, and thats now come down to around $.060/share.
Ditto for LXRX and RGBP.

The bank stocks were easier to predict.
The oil stocks so far have made very little money.

And BTW, I see you got your wiki page now, eh Ceiling Cat?? Looks like you're moving up in the world 😂

Phil C.,

I get great satisfaction in my work, and in my endeavor in investing I have a passion for it. There are people that have worries and suffer from anxiety because their prospects and possibilities are limited, I do not.
So you claim to be better than Warren Buffett. If you are, maybe you can tell all your fellow hobbyist how you choose your stocks. That way we will know if you are a clueless wannabee in a cheap orange jump suit or not. It is only fair that I tell how I pick my stocks, but only after you, Mon Sewer

I’m thinking there’s not much recovery upside left in the market.
I made my money, probably just go after some more dividends now. 🤔

Phil C. ( U-man ),

It was just as I suspected, you are another EMMM stock picker. There is little chance you will be back at this thread as the realities of the stock market return and profits are harder to come by. I have already revealed how I pick my stocks. It is not as simple as you make it out to be. There are many methods and my method is only one way that gives you an advantage over random picks. The knowledgeable investor compared to the random picker can be 5 to 10 times more profitable. My method has already been revealed in a previous thread. @ How do you pick you stocks. ( first post )

1) This is only an order status, not an actual order.
2) His U-man money is still in the account.
3) The full outstanding unpurchased order is still on the status form.

4) There is no fill price.
