That's a good article on Insulin and cortisol that affect our weight directly and indirectly.

We don't know if Emily was obese before the pandemic started. She could have had a normal BMI and could have gained weight during the pandemic. Her weight is really beside the point.
There are obese people that have had covid and are still living.

We don't even know if it was one of the variants spreading around Brampton that killed her?

Her mother is still in the hospital most likely on oxygen. If Emily had oxygen while in the hospital, I think she would be alive today.
Why didn't her father admit her to the hospital like mom was?

I have so many questions.

The energy balance theory accepts the first rile of thermodynamics. Which is true in a closed system. The problem is our bodies are not closed systems. Our metabolism is influenced by our hormones which are directly affected by our food choices. The primary hormone being insulin. Which is our fat storage hormone. Thus we have ketogenic diets. Ketogenic diets do not restrict calories and therefore there isn't a metabolic compensation to starvation. Zoe Harcombe Explains all this in detail in her book ""The Obesity Epidemic''. Gary Taubes most recent book '' A Case For Keto'' is another must read to understand how the calories in calories out theory fails long term. Toronto's own Dr. Jason Fung backs all this up and more in his latest work " the Obesity Code''. Fung is also the foremost expert on intermittent fasting which has been a watershed moment for many people who have struggled with their weight in the past.
Intermittent fasting- to help reduce the calories one eats in a day by forcing one to only eat so much in one sitting.

If you sit down and inhale 4000 calories in one sitting and do not burn it off, NEWSFLASH you will gain weight and get FAT if this happens over and over!!

Keto - the "good" fat is supposedly supposed to satiate one more thus eating less.

If you Keto your heart out and inhale 4000 calories a day and not burn enough you will get FAT!!!

If as a male, you eat 2000 to 2200 calories a day, bike for an hour or jog for 3 to 4 miles 5 days a week, do some weights to gain some muscle,

NEWSFLASH, you will look good and maintain!

If you are a big eater like many are, eat low calorie high volume food to satiate one's self and make it a lifestyle of food you enjoy so you don't yoyo diet and regain what you've lost.

It really isn't that hard, it's called consistency, discipline and lifestyle.

This I agree with, her father avoided the hospital and it definitely wasn't a good move.

Pretty harsh. Almost Nazi-like to want us removed from society.

Are you recommending mass murder or internment camps?
Im sure you can find many posts asking for the same of us who dont agree with your narrative.....

Justin Trudeau, your leader, is the one suggesting interment camps. He just calls them "Government approved" facilities.

Hey, I can get you on a plane to India and once you get there I have connections so you won't have to isolate!

Or we could just keep those planes coming here that are full of covid cases and YOU can keep going into lockdown while wearing your life saving mask?
Did you see the numbers today down to 3200? I guess lockdown and masks are working NO?

Hey, did you know travel from India has been stopped for 30 days? I would have to charter you a private plane which may be worth it if you take Tj/Drew/knowitall and CM/SPfree along with you.

They could tell us all the numbers they want. THEY ARE PROJECTED NUMBERS AND NOT ACTUAL NUMBERS. They base it all off computer modelling. You...did...know that right?

Secondly, I hope India gets their numbers down to zero in 30 days before they allow flights to come here again?

Im assuming you were happy knowing we were locking down due to Ontarians being the only sick people and how its OUR problem the cases are on the rise, huh?

Intermittent fasting usually requires restricted eating periods. The most common being a 6 hour feeding window and a 18 hour fast. So persons can skip breakfast eat lunch and dinner within that 6 hour window and they are good to go. This doesn't mean forcing calories usually consumed over longer periods into to shorter periods.

Ketogenic diets cause the body to become fat adapted. So in theory you will burn fat for energy instead of glucose. Your liver will produce keytones which can cross the blood brain barrier and will feed your brain. You will be in keytosis which is a natural state that our ancestors lived in when they went days without eating. This isn't to be confused with ketoacidosis. Which can be life threatening. Ketogenic diets are LCHF in nature. Low carb high fat. Dietary fat has little affect on insulin which is your fat storage hormone. Fat also is extremely satiating it also suppresses Ghrelin which is your hunger hormone that signals your brain when to eat. Peptide YY is another satiety hormone that increases significantly after a high fat meal.

So the idea is to eat smaller calorically dense meals not meals of high volume. The participant in a ketogenic diet usually is quite satisfied eating lower volumes of food and because they are fat adapted will burn stored fat as fuel. This diet works best for those that are insulin resistant. Which means their bodies have had to produce more and more insulin bring down their blood glucose levels. This happens over years of frequent feedings of high carbohydrate/sugar meals. Excess insulin in your body will lead to the production of advanced glycated end products which is a factor in diabetes and thought to contribute to coronary heart disease.

Ketogenic eating combined with intermittent fasting really works. That's been proven over and over. The best thing is your body doesn't seem to adjust your metabolic setpoint. Which is exactly what low calorie diets do. The Minnesota Starvation Experiment was an eye opener to this fact years ago. When you fast your body ramps up ''autophagy''. Think cellular housecleaning like changing the oil in your car. Which your body cannot do when your digesting food. Your body will increase growth hormone and nor adrenaline as well which both add in lipolysis or fat breakdown.

Now we're all human but at the same time we are all individuals so there's no one way cookie approach to dieting. But if one was to read an excellent book in my opinion '' The obesity Code'' by Dr. Jason Fung is worth the effort. He's a Canadian Nephrologist from Toronto who just got fed up watching his patients become diabetics and dealing with their declining health. He saw current dietary dogma was ineffective for most people. His theories are a breath of fresh air.

You really love to complicate an actually simple process of calorie intake and exercise. Dr. Fung wants to sell you books. He's making a killing selling you books. He's a kidney specialist catering to diabetics.

If you are trying to gain muscle intermitting fasting is the last thing you actually want to do. You are better off eating 5 smaller meals a day averaging out to the desired correct caloric intake your body requires depending on what your goals are.

You want to spend money on gimmicks and fad diets, go ahead. I suggest you buy a food scale, download MyFitnesspal and set your BMR and off to the races you go. Eat right but eat flavorful so you can maintain the lifestyle for a very very long time. Make sure to do cardio with some weight training depending on desired goals you want to achieve. It's simple, you don't have to do ridiculous diets which more than likely you cannot follow during your lifetime.

Bruce Lee was extremely fit and died at 32.
Eat right, exercise daily, get hit by a bus anyways.
Read the latest book about him.....Bruce Lee: A Life.

Excellent work. The latest theory based on all the evidence now just coming out is that he died from a heat stroke from over doing his training. A lot of people were silent about what happened that days for years and years. But are talking now.

5 small meals a day will just have you releasing insulin all day long. Not what someone who has had trouble losing weight wants to do. It's recipe for failure. And this thread was about obesity not gaining muscle.

Humans are adapted to fasting. We've been doing it for 2.5 million years. It's natural for us and you call it a fad. Nope. Every major religion incorporates it somewhere. Think that's a fluke.

The fad is your apps............

So Dr. Fung is just trying sell books eh? And I said he is a Nephrologist. What's your point? Doesn't mean he can't research nutrition as it's applied to the human existence. It does mean that the majority of his patients are obese and either diabetic or pre diabetic. Which gives him a wealth of practical experience. Is everybody who ever sold a book a charlatan trying to bilk the public?

I feel your approach is mostly out dated and has failed over and over. It's no wonder we as a society have been getting more and more obese as time goes on.
