Sad story but just goes to prove how dangerous the deniers and anti vaxxers are. The girl's dad who was vaccinated was the only family member Covid free.

I think it's time to start arresting each and every organizer of any anti-mask rallies, anti-vaxxer mouthpiece with a minimum of 5 years jail time.

I just read this.

I would like to see what CM and TJ and the lot have to say to this.

hey @canada-man. - is this bullshit? Did this girl not die? Was her mother not in a hospital since they are empty. Did COVID have nothing to do with destroying this families loss?

Hard to deny that she died. Truly tragic. Just read the article: https://ca.news.yahoo.com/emily-victoria-viegas-13-old-123846491.html. I'm not signing up for that Globe and Mail rag. Clearly it is a click-bait headline. No mention about girls health history; such as, pre-existing conditions. Hard to consider this a covid-alarmist incident without knowing. If article said, "Teenager with no pre-existing medical conditions died of Covid-19 Variant", I would have been very alarmed. But @Jenesis, this is very tragic. Can't imagine the extreme sorrow the parents must be feeling.

I think it wouldn’t be classified or written as strictly COVID if there was a known pre-existing condition. She was 13. Hard to say she had some condition that COVID would have helped along.

They did add that she had pneumonia as well so this leads me to this opinion that they would have said something.

Not signing up for The Star, but thanks for reposting the links. Found an article from last fall that foretold this disaster: https://www.msn.com/en-ca/money/oth...-percentage-than-any-other-in-gta/ar-BB1b80RS. In the Global News article, ICES senior scientist, Jeff Kwong says, "There's a lot of crowding in household areas and a lot of those people in those areas have occupations that require them to work outside the house." The rest of the article goes into specific details - details we can see linked to the exacerbating of imported variants. A lot of people are going to die before the government admits the real source of the problem. God help those residents.

Her death is big news on CP24 this morning.

Her father, an essential worker, was vaccinated but not his wife and two kids. I think they said his wife is in the hospital with COVID. Mayor Brown is asking that vaccine be provided based on risk and not population.

I don't live in Brampton but I did register for the vaccine but was told I am low risk, based on what I do and where I live, so not a priority.

This is the result of anti-masker, covid deniers and anti-lockdown people. They spread the virus, it eventually gets to this point, when it didn't have to. It's time to start vaccinating hot spots ASAP.

Besides advanced age and the presence of multiple comorbidities as major contributors to increased risk of severe disease and fatal outcome from Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) disease (COVID-19), there is now emerging evidence that overweight and obesity predispose to severe symptoms and negative prognosis. Remarkably, the severity of COVID-19 appears to rise with increasing body mass index (BMI). The association between COVID-19 outcomes and overweight/obesity has biological and physiological plausibility. Potential pathophysiological mechanisms that may explain this strong association include the chronic pro-inflammatory state, the excessive oxidative stress response, and the impaired immunity that is commonly reported in these individuals

CONCLUSION: Evidences showed that during quarantine due to COVID-19, children and adolescents were physically less active, have much longer screen time exposure, sleep patterns disturbances, and less favorable diets, possibly resulting in weight gain and in a loss of cardio-respiratory fitness. Such negative effects on health are likely to be much worse in subjects that are overweight or have obesity. Moreover, stressors emerging from the prolonged national lock-down around the world and from social distancing could have even more problematic and enduring effects considering that obese children are more susceptible to psychiatric disorders.

Abstract
Introduction
Global public health is challenged by two concurrent epidemics; COVID-19 and obesity. Considering the global prevalence of obesity, exploring relationships with COVID-19 are of clinical importance. The aim was to provide a comprehensive summary and recommendations on this relationship between COVID-19 and obesity.

Method
A literature search was performed to prepare a narrative review of COVID-19 and obesity.
Results
An obesity state promotes chronic inflammation, vitamin D deficiency, hinders immunity and causes mechanical lung compression. These increase susceptibilities to COVID-19 infection, complications including the requirement of invasive ventilation. Existing co-morbidities enhances these complications. Preventive measures of social distancing and self-isolation may increase stigmatisation and psychological deterrents. Hence, special recommendations targeting this vulnerable population are required.

Conclusion
The obese population is a COVID-19 vulnerable group, requiring special attention during this pandemic to avoid complications and healthcare systems burden. Lacking COVID-19 vaccination, regular physical activity and a healthy diet are recommended with attention to mental health. A prolonged quarantine duration and administration of prophylactic vitamin D may be considered.
