Lost in the news of a verdict in the Chauvin trial comes another shooting.

“The shooting killed a store manager, a Nassau County official told CNN on condition of anonymity. Police earlier said the person who died was 49 years old, but did not release a name.

The two wounded survivors were taken to a hospital, and were conscious and speaking with law enforcement officers, authorities said.”

It's alleged by some that there is a constitutional right to shoot people down here. Not just the cops, either...

It's easy to avoid. Just don't go to mass.

I thought all of these shootings were supposed to end once Trump left office?

I keep reading on Reddit and other forums how "socialism is destroying America."

Seriously? I see nothing in the US that even closely resembles "socialism".

If anything is "destroying America" it's intolerance, inequality, selfishness, greed and too many guns in the hands of trigger-happy people.

The fact that so many people in the US SHARE these ideals is a form of socialism itself.

give it a rest no right to shoot unless self defense

you DO have a right to keep and bear arms and the courts have agreed

And these mass shootings still account for only 1% of gun deaths in the USA. Eliminate gang violence and you eliminate most gun deaths.

You are correct; however, making it easy for practically anyone to get their hands on guns, as is the case across much of the US, has a trickle-down effect -- and the guns trickle down to the gangbangers.

The "right to keep and bear arms" allows people to legitimately buy firearms and then sell them to people who would otherwise be barred from buying them. And that spreads to other countries, especially Mexico and to a large degree Canada. I even saw a BBC segment when I lived in England years ago about how Jamaican gangs in the US were buying guns and then mailing them to other Jamaican gangs in the UK by disassembling them and shipping the parts piecemeal along with other items so they wouldn't be detected.

Did you know that suicide by gun account for the majority of gun deaths in the USA?

Yes, I did. The USA has a population 10 times the size of Canada, and has 10 times more people committing suicide. In other words, the rate of suicide between the USA and Canada is virtually identical.

Guns don't make people want to kill themselves. Depression and mental illness does. Take away guns, those same people will find another way. Think about the mindset someone has to be in to believe that jumping off a bridge to their death or blowing their brains out is a good idea.

USA ranked #34 n Suicide rates per 100,000 @ 13.7

Canada ranked 72nd @ 10.4

Yes, "virtually identical". Only about 30% higher in the USA.

And the USA population has over 400 million guns while Canada has 20 million.

Sweden and Japan rank higher than the USA.

Suicide is not a gun problem. It's a mental health issue.

Your number for guns in Canada is way off. According to the Canadian government, there are an "estimated 7.1 million firearms in civilian hands, representing a rate of 241.5 per 1,000 population, (placing Canada) in the same range as other countries, such as Australia and New Zealand."

Thanks, that strengthens the argument further that suicide is unrelated to guns.

Anti-gun folks like to conflate the two.

No the Liberals claimed there were 7.1 million guns because years ago they registered about that many and wanted to claim that all the guns got registered which was bull

cooey firearms (Canada) alone manufactured approx 6 million guns between the 1920's and the 1970s

low end estimates are approx 12 million probably closer to 20 million
