NHL rules. They mentioned that Matthews would not equal 50 goals in 50 games (this season) because he missed games due to injury. I wonder if they apply that rule to Jack Campbell?

I first heard it on the Leafs sportsnet broadcast. But here's a link, the source is sportslogiq.

Matthews needs to score 26 goals in 13 games to obtain that record, that's not going to happen. Matthews wrist injury slowed down his scoring pace.

Goalies don't play every game even when healthy.

Both Matthews and Nylander are UFAs in 2024-2025. Who do you think stays?

I think Leafs give Matthews near $13-15M/yr and he stays. In 2024-2025 Nylander is UFA and he's gone.
My hope is that Nylander is gone well before then.

My Sens are night by night playing a little better and better.

They weren't the best team tonight and didn't deserve the win but they made it close and were very competitive.

There are brighter days ahead for them that is certain.

Having said all that what in the blazes was Chabot thinking with that pass attempt? I'm thinking exhaustion had something to do with it.

It was good to see Pierre Dorion show some emotion.
What I like about the Sens is that they play hard. No doubt they are lacking in talent and experience but the effort their guys put in is admirable. The guy who has been disappointing for them was the FA signing Evgeni Dadonov. Only 14 points in 38 games, certainly not the offense the Sens were expecting from him.
On the bright side the young guys Brady Tkachuk, Drake Batherson, Tim Stuzle have looked good overall. Thomas Chabot has been somewhat inconsistent but he's still only 24 and shows glimpses of his full skillset. The jury is still out on Erik Brannstrom, he's only 21 but I would have thought that the way he was hyped up he'd be better than what he's show so far.

They remind of the Leafs the first year Babcock was here when they tanked for Matthews.
They played their balls off and they played well considering they were sorely lacking in elite talent.

Imagine if they had some goaltending...

Hutch was good the rest of Leafs weren't so good in the second period. But the Leafs capitalize on the Flames' mistakes in the 3rd and got a lucky bounce. The Flames will win the next game if the Leafs don't play better and they need to score on the PP.

The Flames are awful. I look at that team and all I see are a bunch of average guys, not one elite player. Ottawa is a way tougher opponent night in, night out.

Calgary shouldn't be like that, they have 5/6 of the better players in the NHL, their performance is why their coach got canned...their best players are underachieving.

With Buffalo in the league Ottawa has to tank harder to get the best chance on the lottery for #1 pick.

Ottawa isn't tanking at all (from my angle), they're just not very talented (with a few exceptions).
Devastated with injuries, especially to their goaltenders.
Buffalo, that's a mess from the owner's suite to the 23rd player on the roster.
I really don't think they're tanking either, just a clusterfuck of an organization.

Fun with figures:

John Tavares has played 183 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs
he has 178 points, almost a point a game (.9727 p.p.g.) and very solid defensively.
Tavares has 4 years remaining at $11,000,000 a.a.v.

He ain't flashy. He's consistently professional. Really, a complete player.

It's difficult to compare teams from cross divisions but from records alone one has to put the Leafs on par with the likes of Lightning, Panthers, Hurricanes, Washington, NYI, Pittsburgh, Avalanche, and Vegas. Unlike in previous years where they were clearly a notch or two below TB and Boston.

This is the first year where they'll be clearly favourites in the 1st round of the playoffs. Even last year both Columbus and Toronto finished with identical records 70 games played 81 pts. Both teams had injuries to some of their better players also that affected their regular season record and both teams were fully healthy until Muzzin was injured. Neither was clearly favoured over the other. A loss in the first round this year then there's something to complain about. Unless of course Muzzin gets injured again and Marincin has to step in.

I won't give the Leafs a pass if they don't get out of the division because Muzzin's hurt.
I love Muzzin but elite teams compensate for those injuries.
Marincin is not an option in my eyes, his game falls apart badly in high level games.
Lehtonen trade really weakened their depth on that side.

Well, a playoff team shouldn't be relying on a Marincin as next man up so they were not prepared and deserved what they got. Considering also their D included the likes of Ceci and Barrie it was already not championship calibre to start with. Leafs for the most part played with their full compliment of D this season. It may not be an excuse but I would say losing Muzzin will be a huge loss. I'd say losing Brodie will also be a huge loss. Losing Rielly? He can't play defense but he'd probably be huge loss as well. Holl is probably under-rated but Muzzin helps him out a lot. Dermott is probably over-rated. He wouldn't be suitable for top 4. There's a huge difference between a Holl/Muzzin pairing and a Holl/Dermott pairing. Imagine having to play Dermott 20 min a game rather than 10 against tougher competition.
