That is exactly the point

We do not do mass lockdowns for Influenza (or any other virus, not even SARs itself which is very similar to Covid)

So why exactly do they do this lockdown crap thinking if we hide in a bomb shelter the virus will somehow "go away"?

PS the whole world is NOT on lockdown; that is a myth. One of the main reasons Canada is encouraging you not to travel. I have. Others have.
Other places had localized lockdowns (eg a specific group of people either through contact tracing (which Canada sux at) or simply locking down a small area (China snuffed out the virus in like a month, in Canada a year later we are as ill prepared as the Italians were; even Italy has their shit together today)

There are far more countries out of lockdown than in it at this point
Again to emphasize what a bunch of bullshit and nonsense you post, Jordan, in a lockdown!!

3.4% Mortality Rate estimate by the World Health Organization (WHO) as of March 3
In his opening remarks at the March 3 media briefing on Covid-19, WHO Director-General Dr Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus stated:

Globally, about 3.4% of reported COVID-19 cases have died. By comparison, seasonal flu generally kills far fewer than 1% of those infected.”

As of March 15, 2021, a total of 913,047 confirmed cases caused by the novel Coronavirus COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) and 22,495 deaths were reported in Canada.
This is about a 2.5% mortality rate.
That is the case fatality rate.
The infection fatality rate is way lower.
Mortality rate is typically the number of dead per 100,000 population.

Are you fucking kidding me? Jordan???
Who goes there???

Forget Covid they have been under travel advisory for YEARS
You know, civil war and all right?

How about finding a country where a sane person would travel for vacation?
Caribbean, South American, parts of Africa, Asia?

You really are scraping bottom of barrel trying to back up what you laughably think is a point

But to be clear for our super densest of members; places where tourism is happening have no mask or lockdown laws
Squeezer on other hand wishes to spend his Spring Break over in Jordan (his insanity speaks for itself)

Alrighty, Mr. Delusional! I get it, you don't like Jordan. Perhaps you have something against Middle Eastern countries, okay, I get it. How about this one then??

How about all the lockdowns happening here???

The Czech Republic: Tighter lockdown
One of the hardest hit countries in the EU, the Czech Republic is tightening its lockdown.
The new measures include closing nurseries and schools for younger children and those with disabilities, a ban on movement between districts and mandatory mass testing for employees of factories and companies that stay open.

Don't like the Czechs, then what about here

France: New lockdown on the Riviera and on the north coast

Have a beef with the French, can I interest you in a lockdown here. I mean come on, I've been to Spain several times and the women are to die for so you can't knock the Spaniards can you??

Spain: Curfew and other measures to continue

I strongly recommend 1918 it may open your eyes.

The fact that a third and fourth wave happened should be a huge clue.

Or else the people in charge are looking at historical data. But judging from past events we know this to be true.

What did 1918 prove. That in a less populated, less densified, less traveled world that a virus still infected a third of the world population and killed 10% of those infected even with lockdows. The equivalent of that today would be over 200 million deaths. As for waves, this political virus has more waves than the ocean.

You and your kind of thinking are the ones contributing to rising numbers!!!!! You're a selfish lockdown loving individual.
Are you the one testing people. Do you actually know who's positive and who's causing the spread. Are you a doctor or nurse taking care of people in the ICU. How do you really know. Because Dougie told ya.

It proves that even in our more densely populated world the measures we are taking are having a very great effect in mitigating the effects of a deadly virus. If we didn't have so many covidiots messing things up we'd be doing even better.

There was no vaccine in 1918. The Spanish Flu ripped through the population of the world much like Covid is doing now, and then went away all on its own.

Toronto did lock down for SARS-CoV-1 back in 2003.
Toronto never had a lockdown back in 03
Nothing was closed and vast majority of people cared less about SARs

Back in 03 the hospitals suspended non-essential services (Code Orange) and limited visitors

I also would point out the SARs started March 26 (heh same timeframe as Covid) and had fully resolved all issues by May 14 (which again is time frame Covid cases pretty much ceased to exist)

The similarities between SARs and Covid extend beyond the actual virus yet our response this time around is absurdity

So if Toronto didnt lockdown, and new infections spiralled out of control, how would you handle Toronto hospital's intensive care units being overrun if you were Doug Ford or John Tory??

But they were not
People watched some news about rural Italian hospitals getting overrun
Even in worst case scenario we had nowhere near the expected infection numbers

And even for a second assuming we had an area with sufficient density just do what NYC did
Use an existing building as a temporary stopgap
Heck they proved a hotel for homeless people / quarantine visitors works fine
Could easily have tarped a hotel or two and isolated people there if they were really so desperately overrun

There is no point to lockdowns
Other countries (Sweden and Brazil being most notable) did not even do a true lockdown
(Carnival went ahead no worries down there, I have a friend who went, Feb 25 to Mar 2)

You are so ridiculous it's astonishing. SO tell us genius, who will staff these buildings? Do we have enough front-line workers at our disposal since you're obviously cool with letting the weaker folks suffer in a make-shift ICU, maybe with the janitors trying to hook up the ventilators??

This was posted many times

If they ever did get out of control they would need temporary facilities (NYC did it and no issues)

To be fair to Ford; I am not against the initial reaction (March 2020) as back then noone knew wtf was going to happen
But by June at the absolute latest he needed to have figured out the old age homes needed all the $$$ and workers, not the hospitals

A ventilator is just that
There is noone sitting in the room monitoring them

And if Ford wasted half the money he wasted on old age homes / health care it is itself a non issue

(BTW ventilators made up only a small percentage of the ICU; most were simply quarantined alone which wasted space since ICU was not meant to quarantine alone)

We could have spent less money and been way more effective at fighting what is nothing more than a bad flu
