It was all very incestuous. In the late republic, you had to be of senatorial rank and from a senatorial aristocracy family to command an army or get other mega-power / mega-graft goodies. So factions competed to nominate their members for positions with clout. So your faction would try to get you an army command, so you could collect your army in Gaul or Syria and then come back with it to Rome and murder the senators in the other factions - who would nominate their guy to an equally powerful army command somewhere else with the same purpose in mind.

It's astonishing that Rome lasted so long. The Civil Wars never really stopped.
My bad, it was Marius that Cesar was related to.

Caesar's uncle Gaius Marius was a popularis, Marius' protégé Lucius Cornelius Sulla was an optimas, and in Caesar's youth their rivalry led to civil war. [wikipedia]

lol that same Marius of the Marius Reforms.

Gaius Marius (Latin: [ˈɡaːijʊs ˈmarijʊs]; c. 157 BC – 13 January 86 BC) was a Roman general and statesman. Victor of the Cimbricand Jugurthine wars, he held the office of consul an unprecedented seven times during his career. He was also noted for his important reforms of Roman armies. He was at the centre of a paradigmatic shift from the militia levies of the middle Republic to the professional soldiery of the late Republic; he also improved the pilum, a javelin, and made large-scale changes to the logistical structure of the Roman army.[1]

Here below are two major similarities.

Rome had its civil wars and the U.S. is having its own civil war (again) now. The major difference now is that the current U.S. civil war doesn't involve mass killings (yet).

A major cause of the fall of Rome was the debasement of their currency. Meanwhile the U.S. is printing money on a massive scale the past 10 (20?) years.

BTW: There was a famous American who some people call the "American Caesar" whose life and career closely resembled that of the original Caesar.

I think the only hope for USA is for them to transform themselves into a form of Social Democracy, and in the process create a more equal and civil society.

That is why I think Sanders, and AOC are important. They may not be the future, but they are the only good future for USA.

As much as Sanders was a breath of fresh air, unfortunately he's weak; continuously bending over to the DNC assholes.
I don't fully trust AOC; I feel she's is just a new breed of the same corporate grifters that masquerade as "progressive". Hopefully she will prove me wrong, but I remain skeptical for now.

I'd love to see Nina Turner in office. She could be the actual Black President that the 99% deserve, unlike the sell-out Obama, who like Biden and his predecessors only serves the donors.
Andrew Yang as NYC Mayor would be great too, but unfortunately Asians are always overlooked in North America. I'm still skeptical about his intentions though; ie will he be another sell-out.

That would speed things up and result in a violent revolution.

I agree. In one instance you have a bunch of rich, over-privileged, corrupt, selfish and ruthless demegogues prepared to use violence to overthrow democracy. In the other, you have some dudes doing bad shit back in ancient Italy.

One cop died, his family thinks it was a stroke. He died away from the protest and hours after. The other four were Trump supports. One died in unclear circumstances, two from underlying health issues and Ashli Bobbitt was allegedly murdered by a capitol police officer. BTW, none of this has anything to do with your March 4 manufactured conspiracies that failed to materialized. So, again: ROFLMFAO!!!

looks like proof that when they did show up on Jan 6 it was ONLY because Trump organized it. They need to be told what to do, they can't show up on their own.

Another "theory"? I congratulate you on your active imagination. With that kind of talent what are you even doing, here? You can just imagine hookers and masturbate.

I was referring to Tucker Carlson and all the right wingers who are praising these bunch of thugs who invaded the Capitol Hill. Do you think that if the security was not jacked up and The Congress was not suspended for that date, as well as no arrests occurred for all those 300+ QAnon supporters, then there would not be a repeat of this insurrection??

Anyway, the policeman who lost his life was a result of the trauma that he suffered from the injuries on January 6th. Two other police officers committed suicide since then. All this could have been avoided if Trump had not motivated them to invade the Capitol Hill.

The dead cop's "trauma" story has been retracted, fully. And Carlson never praised them- I would know, I have his show on the pvr schedule. So, two lies in one post and one "what if".
