Celebrity run ins/sightings

This has been pretty neat. I don't get the hero worship of celebrities. If I want to strike up a conversation I usually ask them what they're reading. Some people have been awesome when I've asked them that, and I've gotten a bunch of good recommendations.

A few stand out:
Steven Page at the AMC at Kennedy Commons (when there was one) back in maybe 2002 when he was still married and in BNL. He's taller than I thought, maybe 6'. I pictured him as being shorter. We talked briefly and he was super nice. Everyone around recognized him but no one else spoke to him. We were both waiting for our partners to get food. Super friendly.
Grant Fuhr was on my flight from Toronto to Calgary and was a total and complete asshole to the air crew. I didn't know who he was but I overhead him telling a stewardess.
I met Gordon Lightfoot at Edwards Gardens in the late 90's. He was a total gentleman, and was very nice.

My pals and I met Howie Mandel outside a Crescent Street bar in Montreal circa 1984. My pal asked for an autograph but had no paper so he asked if Howie would sign his $5 bill. Howie replied: " I don't sign money...but I will take it though!".
Pretty quick-witted guy. Seemed very cool.

I wont get into pro athletes because I've met and hung out with too many to count.

Really other then that, I sat few seats behind Iggy Azalea on a pane to L.A, was behind Judge Reinhold on an escalator in L.A, Kardinal Official at bar, and used to be friends with a celebrity that I would hang out with quite a bit that won't name for discretionary purposes.

Richard Anderson who played "Oscar Goldman" on "The Six Million Dollar Man" asked me for directions in the Manulife centre, very polite and very tall gentleman.

Met many NHL players on Crescent Street over the years. After games many would cruise the bars. I remember once a buddy and I were talking to Mathieu Schneider in 1993, the same year he won the Cup with the Habs. He was surrounded by girls of course, and was pretty stand off-ish to the guys around him. At one point my pal blurted out to him: "What do you have to do to get laid in this place, be a hockey player?".
Matt just ignored him.

LOL you are so right! You just sparked another memory.
In 1984 my friends and I watched the contentious playoff game between the Habs and Nordiques that has since passed into legend as the Good Friday Massacre. We watched it on a big screen at a Howard Johnson's in downtown Montreal. Emotions were running really high. When the Habs won we were so stoked we immediately raced to the nearby Forum to see if we could catch the players emerging from the arena. Sure enough we did, and one of my pals touched Chris Chelios's hair.
He was so excited he kept mentioning this for days afterwards.

Forgot a couple:

Was walking out of a bar on the Hollywood Strip and this guy in a plaid lumberjack shirt comes stumbling out, drunk out of his mind, Matthew McConaughy.

My brother used to work for one of the owners of the Edmonton Oilers, when they had a group of 14 or so owners. Anyways the guy played rec goalie and would attend Gretzky's fantasy camp in Scottsdale. My brother happened to be in town that weekend and we went to the first night meet and greet. I was sitting at a table with my brother and his ex-boss and Phil Esposito and Walter Gretzky come over, they spent half hour talking. Esposito was talking about his time with the Tampa Bay Lightning and how they used to play in the dome before they built an arena, cool story. Wayne sauntered over for a bit to check on his Dad but he spent most of the time speaking to the guys that spent $9999.99 to play at the camp.

Saw Elvis live on Ed Sullivan 1956. old.

I was a young tad when I watched Elvis on the old Ed Sullivan Show. It was around Labour Day, 1956 and the blurry pic showed only his face and shoulders. He sang "Hound Dog, Don't Be Cruel," and a few other songs. I could not hear him singing because of the screaming of the young girls in the audience.

While running to make a connecting flight in Heathrow airport I rounded a corner and literally ran in to Michael Caine. He smiled and seemed pretty cool with the whole thing but the guy he was with, clearly a body guard, was not so understanding.

At work, Mark Eichorn, Jays side arm reliever, real friendly dude, did his impression of "Popeye" for my colleagues and myself.

Walking through Eatons, I walked past George Bell at a sales counter, some kid behind me says "Holy shit!, that's Jesse Barfield" LOL

In early 70's , my elementary school class was invited down to the Horse Shoe Tavern to be the audience as Stompin' Tom Connors filmed his movie , "Across This Land with Stompin' Tom Connors".

Here I am in grade 6 in the legendary Horse Shoe Tavern watching Stompin' Tom doing the "Hockey Song", how awesome is that!!!

not to piss on anyone's parade, I am sure all those were insanely amazing encounters for you guys, but what good did any of this do to anyone, except creating and feeding cults of celebrities who sometimes go into politics with disastrous results?

I got nothing against what you said, little harsh maybe...when I recognize someone out in the world that I usually see on TV I might give them a second look but I don’t get all goo goo over them.
