What do we REALLY know about Covid-19?

You just don't get it
...
No I get that science is too complicated for you.

But what can I expect from yet another guy who thinks masks are pointless but is complaining because the government said some masks are better than others.

I've been taking drops of Vitamin D daily. I'll incorporate the zinc as well.
Don't forget your hydroxychloroquine and your bottle of bleach.

Yes, having a stronger immune system means you are less likely to get sick but it's hardly a way to defeat a virus. There's a reason why polio was eliminated with a vaccine and not multi-vitamins.

Tam is correct about transmission on planes. Planes have to meet safety standards including standards regarding ventilation and air circulation. The average plane changes the entire cabin of air every 3 minutes, a comically large amount of air gets moved through the cabin. The path of airflow in an airplane cabin is from the ceiling to the floor.

In the 1970s there was a case where a single passenger infected 80% of the passengers and crew with a virus. The case as studied, solutions were designed, and new standards were put into place.
Out of date

SARS had no problem spreading on an airplane
So why do you think Covid (which is related to SARS) is somehow able to not spread?

What does that mean for airplanes?
The World Health Organization defines contact with an infected person as being seated within two rows of one another.
But people don’t just sit during flights, particularly ones lasting longer than a few hours. They visit the bathroom, stretch their legs, and grab items from the overhead bins. In fact, during the 2003 coronavirus outbreak of the severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS), a passenger aboard a flight from Hong Kong to Beijing infected people well outside the WHO’s two-row boundary. The New England Journal of Medicine noted that the WHO criteria “would have missed 45 percent of the patients with SARS.”

Her recommendation, based on the science at that time, was no mask. After one month new info came to light and she changed her recommendation and has been consistent for 8-9 months
You're wrong on this one, study showing 3-layer masks are better than on layer were out in July already:

Study showing N95 masks are the best mask was out on August 11 already: https://hartfordhealthcare.org/about-us/news-press/news-detail?articleid=27691&publicId=395

Dr. Tam finally clues in in the 1st week of November and tells us 3-layer masks are better.
She is incompetent like there's no tomorrow

Sure. Why don't I find evidence to support your claims?
Maybe you're not trying hard enough??

How many posts have you made claiming masks don't work?
I have never said masks dont work, I have always said N95 masks are the ones people should use, and not the flimsy masks most people are wearing now

Strange that after all your complaints about masks and lockdowns that you claim Canada should instantly implement the highest level of precautions for every new virus. I'm sure you look forward to the government mandating hazmat suits every time a new virus is identified
Would you necessarily be against hazmat suits if the government handed them out for free??
They only cost $100 each and would probably stop the pandemic in Canada within weeks.

I'm just curious if you'd be okay with that

You are moving the goalposts. First you are complaining about masks vs. no masks in March and now you are talking about number of layers from a July study. It is hard to have an honest discussion with you.

You didn't address my question, what do you hope to accomplish by proving she's incompetent? What will that change?

I'm speaking from HER perspective.

Why is she just figuring out in November that studies show 3-layer masks work better than 1-layer (when studies have shown in July 3-layers work best)??
Please come up with a plausible explanation

We were talking about why she didn't recommend masks right away in Late Feb./early March. She was wrong for the 1st month (because of what scientific info was available) about whether to wear masks but has had the same consistent message for the last 8 or 9 masks that masks should be worn.

Please acknowledge that before we now move the goalposts and discuss the number of layers.

I havent watched EVERY single news conference or tweet she posted, but lets say you're right and she has advocated for masks since March.
Whats her excuse for finding out 3 months later that 3-layered masks work better than 1-layer masks??

How were they going to wear masks they couldn't get?

The N95 are the only masks I see that will work.
Wrong. Over 99.9% of the masks people are wearing work. They work to reduce the liklihood of C-19 infections.

In study after study medical or surgical type masks were as effective as N95 masks.

These type of masks have been available to the public since forever.

Granted there was a shortage around March of these masks, but for her to finally realize that 1-layer masks are ineffective in November is incompetent, because that information was well known before that time
"The World Health Organization has recommended three layers for non-medical masks since June. When pressed about the sudden change for Canada, Tam said the research has evolved."

https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/three-layer-mask-tam-1.5787946

Others were recommending them long before June.

To the average John or Jane on the street & street corners that should have been common sense since about the time they were toddlers.

Is a KN95 mask better than a sheet of bum tissue as a mask. Duh.

Does the government hand masks out for free?

Plenty of new viruses out there. They could assume every new virus is an airborne Ebola or they could make recommendations based on the evidence available.

But amazing that Mr. Masks Don't Work is complaining the government didn't tell us to wear masks earlier.

She knew surgical masks are better. We all knew surgical masks are better. The decision was whether surgical masks were needed or whether other masks would be sufficient. In July and August, the numbers were low so it seemed the difference was insignificant. As the numbers climbed, the realized we needed to step up the recommended specs.
