I grew up in Nova scotia and dated a young lady from that area in my early 20's for 3 years. A few thoughts from chatting with some locals, and a few retired boys in blue.
1.He was dead before he was dead. You don't shoot a police officer while dressed as a police officer and live.
2.Rural RCMP in Nova Scotia are very few and far between and response times are stretched. This could have been much worse.
3.Lawsuits are coming over that alert.
4.This is the nightmare scenario. This isn't big city violence...…...this is country rural, which is considered a safe zone from this kind of violence. Innocence lost
5.Fuck the Globe and Mail for letting me know this shit stains hobbies...……….
6.If the scenarios I'm hearing are true I'm horrified for these poor souls last moments on earth
I agree totally on your points.
I too have friends out there & exchanged a few emails or chatted with folks out there.
policing in rural areas anywhere in Canada is the same. Low staffing for large areas...
the story started at 1030 pm Atlantic time on a Sat night....
more facts will come out of this over time as they can be released. NS police watchdog version of SIU is involved too, so RCMP cannot release much. One of the key elements not yet released or from what I have not seen or heard, when did RCMP know the shooter was dressed like them & have a fully marked car. There are lots of twists & turns yet to come out
Lets not forget this was a high risk event that happened but fortunately low frequency in Canada event , yes mistakes were likely made. When real humans are involved, mistakes or second guessing will happen. Training covers a lot of areas, chances are they never trained for a mass shooting involving someone dressed like a cop, driving a marked car, burning 5 homes traveling over such a wide area for a crime scene.
Lets focus on supporting the people who cannot grieve properly during this COVID19. There is a virtual memorial service Friday night on Facebook. Lets focus on supporting the people having to deal 1st hand with the loss of a loved one, neighbor, co-worker, friend, etc.
Leave the arm-chair quarterback stuff & fingerer pointing for later.
my thoughts & prayers to those out in NS & those that know them around the world.
