Should we compare countries? OK. Apples to apples. In comparison to the U.S. which other countries in terms of percent of world cases to world pop. have a ratio of 7:1 or higher? You are right. It is good to not single out the U.S. Let's compare.
No kidding. Stark differences.
Los Angeles County pop. 10.1 million. Less than 10,000 cases and 300 deaths.
New York City pop 8.8 million. Over 100,000 cases and 7,000 deaths.
What we should be caring about the most is mortality rates. Here are selected figures (using Johns Hopkins website)

Then start your own thread to discuss this. I want to talk about why the U.S. has such a high percentage of world cases compared to their population. It is 7:1. They have 21,000 deaths. Based on their population they should only have 3,000 cases. As far as I am concerned, that disparity is worthy of discussion.
Mortality rates show who is testing more.
The virus has a similar mortality, between 1-3%, globally.
Countries that are testing more asymptomatic people and more people in general will have a lower mortality rate.
I answered you question twice and when someone compares you dismiss that to. You really have a hard on for the U.S. They also did worse during the H1N1 pandemic. It's their entire system in general whether the Democrats or Republicans are in power.

I quoted L.A. County as a comparative population but yes population density would explain a lot of the discrepancy. The population density of L.A. County is even far less with 2,100 per sq mile.
There are likely several reasons for this. Probably the most apparent to me is that they have more travelers, in and out, than any other country. New York City is the most diverse population in the world. And one of the highest density population centres in the world. They are driving the numbers. The Northeast US (NY,NJ,CT,MA,PA) has seen by far the largest number of COVID cases.

Relax, yes there is a virus but nowhere in the numbers we hear on tv. They dont want us to get too relaxed and start going out again too prematurely. Thats all. A fear tactic. They dont want to undo the success they are having. They just need to scare us a bit longer to win this battle quicker.
