Once an asshole, always an asshole. He's now suing Elections Canada over campaign financing. He owes creditors $430 K and doesn't want to pay.

And courage isn't one of his strong points, he wont allow himself to be interviewed by Vassy Kapelos. Scheer and Kenney have done multiple interviews with her.

In your rush to break this news by posting on TERB, you obviously did not even read the article you linked to.

O’Leary wants to personally pay the $430k his campaign owes but election laws do not allow him or any Canadian to contribute more than $1575 to a single candidate.

He is suing Elections Canada so he CAN pay out of his own pocket.

“According to a statement of claim obtained by CBC News, O'Leary still owes in excess of $400,000 to several campaign suppliers — most of them small- or medium-sized enterprises that O'Leary said have experienced financial hardship as a result of the unpaid bills. He said he wants to pay them back personally, but Elections Canada is saying no.

O'Leary, like all contenders for leadership of a federal party, is restricted in the amount of money he can personally float his campaign.

O'Leary had proposed a solution to Elections Canada: he'd pay the vendors back right away but still commit to fundraising the money over a longer period of time from individual donors. The agency rejected that plan as a violation of existing rules.

"It's an outrage. This rule has really had many horrible, unintended consequences. I'm doing this on behalf of every single Canadian to make our country better," O'Leary said of his lawsuit in an interview with CBC's Power & Politics.”

I guess its up to his insurance company to decide to defend it. They should decline to cover him since he allowed a non-qualified boater to drive the boat. s.

Who says she wasn’t “qualified”?

Are you saying the cops were so lazy as to not charge her with operating a vessel without a Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) ? Or maybe they did put down their donut long enough to check she was licensed?

Off topic but funny anyways , I was down in Yorkville not long ago and he was at “one” with some little Asian hottie gushing all over her at his table not far from mine . It was obviously not a business meeting from her attire and their behaviors.
Than I see this picture of him and his wife in this thread not a surprise a rich dick like this guy cheats but it just made me laugh .
He’s loaded and has some celebrity neither he or his wife will do any jail time accident or not , under the influence or not .
Different rules for the wealthy period end of story

He does have Yellow Fever! He separated from his wife when he started on his drive to be a Celebrity. He shacked up with an asian woman (she was a dog IMO) in a fancy Yorkville rental.

He reconciled with Linda but is still jet-setting around and loves being fawned over in restaurants. Eats in Yorkville all the time.

As for the rules for the rich etc. Whether you like him or not, this accident is not something anyone goes to jail over. And certainly not a passenger like he was.

With his insufferable arrogance, he makes me howl when he shows up on Bloomberg Radio, it was only a matter of time before Kevin O'Leary did something stupid.

I don't mean to be sexist but, in all my years on the water, I've never seen a woman operate a powerboat - much less at night. It's like men knitting, you never see it. O' Leary is a trillionaire, he's attempting to cut and cover.

Haha well stated. But women love arrogance and confidence of the type Kevin displays. What he lacks in height and visual appeal he makes up in his Chad personality. This is why he’s married. Girls love a go-getter.

If it wasn't clear before, it is now, this charlatan is a sociopath.

If you listen to anything he has to say you'll end up financially like Julius Caesar - not the conqueror, the poor schmuck on the Senate floor.

Linda O'Leary had alcohol on breath on night of fatal boat crash, warrant documents say
https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/oleary-boat-crash-fatals-details-1.5373589
Documents also say: According to the search warrant, there were 12 people on board the second boat. It was owned by Irv Edwards, who had "turned over control of the vessel to Richard Ruh a short distance from shore."

The documents state that a video from the Edwards property captures the boat shutting off its navigational lights after it pulled away from shore.

The passengers, who were leaving a dinner party, were heading out onto the lake to take in the night sky. The warrant documents note that "prior to 11:30 p.m., the navigational lights were turned off and the engine was stopped for the purpose of stargazing."

If the boat in fact had its lights off, in the middle of the lake on a moonless night, there's a good chance she won't get convicted. They'll argue a perfectly sober person wouldn't have been able to see the boat. Blowing a warn is secondary in this situation. At least that's what they'll argue.

I'm not a boater by any means but isn't it pretty fucking stupid to be sitting on a lake at night stargazing with all your lights off? Sounds like you're asking for trouble.

Yes, because without lights on, you're practically invisible.

So a bunch of people left a party at 11:30 on a boat and turned their lights off against rules and regulations? Can we say booze city? It was a moonless night too.

The claim of drinking a drink after operating a vehiclebefore the breathalyzer is administered is a well known ploy to cast reasonable doubt on the state of intoxication at the time of operation. And the further claim of "forgetting" who gave her the vodka adds to the disingenuousness of the statement.

Clearly a tort was suffered by the civil claimants. It will be up to the court to decide the monetary value of the damages and the apportion of financial responsibility. In my view, based n the facts disclosed and my understanding of marine and navigation laws, the person who decided to switch off their navigation and/or anchor lights is overwhelmingly at fault if their vessel is struck. The vessel underway that struck the unlit vessel may somehow found to have some contributory negligence if they failed to maintain an adequate lookout. But if it were a moonless night on a large black lake then the unlit boat was not visible to avoid unless the boat underway was only at idle speed.

In any case, the dead victims and their families are certainly without blame.

Now that the positive breathalyzer result has emerged good luck with the insurance claim. Regardless of when consumed. Is there coverage for "stupidity"? Lawyers will get rich on this esp. Gr$$nsp@n.

In Ontario and the rest of Canada, the maximum legal BAC for fully licensed drivers is 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood (0.08). Driving with BAC over 0.08 is a criminal offence. That goes for operating an automobile or vessel.

She blew a warn and was not criminally charged with impaired or over 80.

I still say the majority of the onus lies with the boat stopped on the water without navigation lights.

Could someone tell me why none of the 12 people on the unlit boat with its engine off, did not hear the O'Leary boat coming and turn on its lights or do something ?

Normally sound travels well on a lake especially in the quiet of the night. Boats travelling at high speed are not normally in the stealth category.

The circumstances are odd and almost unbelievable.

A "stern drive" (inboard/outboard) powered boat is remarkably quiet as it exhausts underwater through the propellor hub. Also, if the boat is travelling directly towards you, the engine noise is directed in the opposite direction.

Another phenomena with boats and airplanes is that when you are on a collision course, the other craft/light appears to be stationary, without relative movement. Just looks like a light. Only when it gets bigger do you realize it is already too close.

And if the passengers were "star gazing" that suggests they were looking skyward, not across the water.

Bad news that Linda was drinking and going whatever speed was sufficient to kill the others, but I consider the operator of the unlit vessel to be 95% at fault for the collision.

I personally have been on watch passage making at night both under sail and power and we have twice almost hit unit local fisherman hundreds of miles offshore. Both times only missed by less than 50 feet. Scares the shit out of ya!

You raise a good question, "how could no-one hear the boat driven by Mrs. O'leary?"

Dunno.

But I do know that sound is a very unusual thing. For example, I know for 100 percent certainty that if you are standing right on railway tracks and there is an approaching train, you won't hear it. Not one bit, nothing. It's like they are silent. It's a weird effect. Be standing off in the distance and you will hear that locomotive pulling. Stand on the tracks and you won't hear anything but the crickets until that locomotive is right on top of you and you have about 1 second to get out of its way.

Maybe boats are the same.

Don't know if the "other boat" was lit or not. Putting that aside for the moment.

I thought it was illegal to operate a boat and consume alcohol. Any alcohol. You can't head out to the lake to fish, pop a cold one while you fish and then drive back. 0 alcohol.

I do not believe for 1 nano second the BS story of someone handed her a drink to calm her nerves and she pounded it down. Please. She must think people are fucking stupid.

Did you read this article, he WANTS to pay them back out of his own pocket, but Elections Canada will not allow him. He is suing them to allow him to pay his campaign debts personally.
