So, I’m aware that being a server is a tough job, I don’t debate that. The question is, if the rest of the world can do without tipping, why is it so necessary here? I always hear people saying “well, if we paid servers a livable wage, we’d have to raise our prices”, but that doesn’t seem to be the case in countries where tipping doesn’t exist. They’ve all seemed to figure out a system where restaurants can charge reasonable prices, stay in business, pay servers livable wages, and not have to rely on tipping, so why is tipping apparently the only way the industry will work here?
