Democracy has never been about "majority rules", because they always rule sooner or later, by vote or by violence, in every system. What makes a democracy is that the losing minority peacefully accepts election results, knowing they and their rights will be respected, and they can safely wait and win the next time. Venezuela clearly failed that test.

However the OP made it clear his thread is really not Venezuela about at all, but about the US of A. We should remember that its President was never anything like a majority choice — and by all odds so far, never will be — nor have his people treated the losing side, or the system itself, with anything like respect. The only thing narrowly keeping that republic among the democracies is the dwindling faith that its elections are meaningful and will be respected at every level, from the highest on down.

Trump has made an ass of himself in the manner in which he stated that Putin has said that Russia will not intervene in Venezuela. Yet they have Russian and Cuba ground forces there. Then he even stated that Putin has categorically denied Russian involvement in the elections. What a dummy!!
